Just wondering 520talon made a comment in the harness section about a certain type of padding you are supposed to be using.

And I was just wondering what it is, where can you find it, specifics on mounting, etc

I found this:
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/Pro...878&prmenbr=361

But it's adhesive applied and not sure if that's all you have to do or not. Also is that even the right stuff?

I'm pretty sure that's it, or the other stuff on Jegs made by JAZ. You could probably just put something over the adhesive and just ziptie them in place.

Or run electrical tape over all the padding, thats what I plan on doing. Or just paint it, they said at the track its a matter of having all the points, and a fire jacket, paddings not high on there list.

If your not going to get it, It's your head, you only got one. I would buy a nice helmet then, you know what they say a $10 helmet for a $10 head. I'm kinda just kidding.

But if you are going to get it, yeah that is the good stuff. It actually absorbs impact durring a crash. It is hard to the touch and if you try to bend it, it will snap. The other foam stuff will split or bounch your head back causing more injury depending on what part you hit and the condition of it.

That said I run the good stuff cause I have to around my head and use the soft stuff for where my legs will hit. I don't know if this is required in all sanctioning bodys of racing, but it is what they use in the roundy ronud cars. It is also fire resistant where the other stuff lights up quick, melts, falls off the bars and bonds to your skin. Ever burn a gas can? Or an old couch?

Give me a call, I've got some of both laying around I could show you. I actually have an extra 3 foot piece in black of the SFI padding in the garage I would get rid of cheap. and some yellow spongee stuff you could just have.

Oh yeah you still zip tie the stuff into place.

I like how the Good stuff seems to only be 1/2 Sided meaning that for the Door Bars it wouldn't effect the clearance between the bar and the door.

But as you said for your head. where would that go on a 6 point?

I know Brent has a Cage like thing around his upper body but for only a 6 point the cage is behind you.

You can get it over at MAS racing in St Paul. It's foam padding with an eccentric hole so you can spin it around on the bar to allow more room if it's close to the roof or door. Then just ziptie it on there. It's $5/stick at MAS. My entire cage has it.

Are you putting in a cage or a bar? A cage follows the a pillars and has a winshield bar. A six point bar is a d-ring with four post off it to keep it from going forward or backward. Is it a bar or a cage? A cage will definately be near your head and side. A roll bar will pass by your side.

The good stuff is only half sided because, well if your are going to be hitting the other side of the bar than the side where your head would normally hit, you are in more trouble than padding is going to save you from anyway.

If the bars won't be at your head but at your side all you need is the soft foamy stuff.

It's a 6 point.

would it still be better to use the SFI stuff over the soft stuff?

I like it but if I did go quick release I'd go with the sparco one, just to keep with the sparco theme.

However I already have a huge list of stuff to get done. Maybe next year.
