Has anyone played this game?
I just got it tonight and ive never been so fucking scared of a video game in my life. This game is purely fucking awesome. The graphics are great things jump out at you from the darkness. im just starting the game and am horrified to play on. i was hopeing to play for a couple hours so i got my soundcard set to 5.1 Dolby Digital, threw on my 6 speaker headphones, tuned up the graphics card, turned out the lights and began playing. then the horror starts and i died. i continued from my save point and played for another 20 minutes and got too scared and quit, im gonna ease into this one by starting out in the light so i can not be so scared then by the time its dark ill be more used to it.
I highly recommend those who havent played this yet to try it out. you will be freaked the fuck out.

Scary: Check
Redundant: Check
Waste of $50: Check
The game is a ton of eye candy and the AI is pretty good. I like the fact that it brings back the single player puzzles that the original Doom and Quake series had. Other than that, once you get beyond the first few missions it's just the same shit over and over... Dark hallways with monsters jumping out at you.

Yeah my computer has a 256MB radeon card and i was having a little problem with choppyness, but i just tweaked the drivers a little and it works a little better. but the game is a mamouth. the reason my friend borrowed it to me is because his machine which is a dell, couldnt handle it. so he goes out and buys a AGP graphics card and a 512MB of ram and calls me over to install everything and i open the cover of his pc, what do we find, theres not a single agp slot. so hes gonna get a new case and motherboard and im gonna rebuild his system.
Hell the game is 2.5 GB and for the ultra high graphics i think you needs something like 500 mb of FREE ram.
i need some more damn ram. grrr.

Stop typing, please. I beg everyone to stop reading your crap. Learn more about how applications use system resources before you start displaying your idiocy. Specifically learn about how games RAM on the motherboard, disk cache and video memory on the video card.

OK Lets see you prove me wrong being that your soooo quick to put me down everytime i state a fact.
On Doom 3 the games size is 2.2 Gigs. and the MINIMUM requirements are a 64 MB Graphics card. The Recommended (From Gamespot bench test) for the Ultra High Graphics Setting is a Graphics card with 256-512mb of DDR Memory, and at least 512 mb of ram, they benched marked the computers in regards to how much ran they had and it started to level out at 1gb. the biggest change was from 256 to 512 which was an increase in frames per second of 40%.
So matt do a little research before you put me down asshole.

They are Headphones that i got from my old work. They have the front (main) speakers, the rear speakers and one actual subwoofer in each head phone, its pretty sweet, they vibrate your ears. It comes with all the cords to hook up to a home reciever, computer, cd player etc. it even has its own powered amplifier. LOL i love them.

The size of the game doesn't matter. It doesn't load the entire game into memory when you load it. Having more RAM will obviously help load the game faster, but when that is overrun your computer will resort to the disk cache, also known as a paging file. This in turn is slow and will hinder your gaming experience when it comes to loading new levels, going into new areas of a game, etc... Anywhere new information has to be read. Again, a game could be 10gb, but that doesn't mean you need a better video card.
When it comes to gaming the advantages of having more than 256mb of memory on the video card aren't worth the inflated prices. You are better off spending your money on a card and motherboard that can handle 8x AGP and the fastest FSB that you can afford. After all, the front side bus is the main highway that information travels between the CPU, RAM and video card. No amount of RAM on your video card or motherboard will help you if your CPU and motherboard aren't up to the task.
What I'm saying is that no matter how much RAM you have it will not improve your FPS. That is mainly up to your video card, and secondly up to the combination of how fast your CPU, FSB and RAM is. A computer is a system just like our cars are... Everything needs to work together, or there is always a bottleneck holding something back.
I'm not putting you down... You just need to start using what little common sense you have instead of regurgitating what you believe to be fact.

What a waste of money. A single ear can not determine direction, ahead or behind. Ears are used together to determine where sounds originate. Basically with the use of only one ear all you hear is a sound, but not the direction it came from. Don't believe me? Here is an article concerning Single Sided Deafness - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/medical_...tes/2988972.stm

I know. But he also said it has front and rear speakers and you can hook it up to your home reciever. A pair of Sennheiser headphones would blow those out of the water anyway.

Very Very Doubtful. Ive lestened to Professional quality Sennheiser headphones and these blow them out of the water.
and the comment about how headphones cannot create Imaging is complete BS. come on matt i thought you played games before. Anyone who has ever used headphones to play a game knows that with a good set of headphones you can hear distinct areas where the sound is coming from. Why is it that pro gamers use headphones, because you can hear another player coming up before you see them. the sound card is part of the equation but if you are listening to the game on a set of earbuds your sound is going to be 2 dimensional.
The reason that these headphones are so great is that the sound is split up into 6 channels. so that in collaboration with my 6 channel soundcard equals knowing that theres a zombie behind me and that a box just fell to the front left of me.
Its true that the human ear must have both ears to create imaging but im not just listening with one ear. each headphone has 3 speakers inside it so the sound can remain in its original 6 channel form.

Regardless, you are filling each ear with sound that is being produced not even an inch away. No shit that you hear a sound and don't see anything move that you can easily assume that the sound came from behind you, or possibly somewhere else. You don't need 6 fucking speakers in your damn priceless headphones to get the affect of sound behind you. Technologies such as Creative's EAX create that imaging effect just fine with regular speakers or headphones. All it takes is adjusting the tone/frequency/pitch and it sounds like there is actually something above, behind or below you. What I'm getting at is feeding each ear with sound from 3 different speakers is worthless. With the speakers being so close to your ears you will be unable to tell the difference between what is in front and what is behind. Nor can each ear individually differentiate between what is in front or behind.
