How do I clean the MAF and such?

Sorry if I am sounding like an idiot...but I am not sure of the proper names of what is behind/inside my K&N. On my car is a K&N on the stock intake hose. Inside that is what I am assuming is the MAF and air temp sensor. Is there anyway to clean these internals without destroying the sensors? Is it even required or neccessary to be cleaned?

Thanks in advance!
Kenny

The filter should be protecting the mass air flow sensor from any dirt and particles that may make it dirty... So if you have a hole in the filter or something else then just wipe it down, I wouldnt touch the honeycombs at all.

Re: How do I clean the MAF and such?

The filter is in place and in very good condition. I refreshed the filter last week and saw the honeycomb pieces which looked like they were coated slightly with old K&N oil. Didn't know if I should or should not try to clean them with carb cleaner or whatnot.

I wouldn't worry but I would use electrical contact cleaner if I wanted to do it.

If you do use an aerosol can cleaner make sure it's non-chlorinated so it doesn't attack the plastic.

Re: How do I clean the MAF and such?

Have you guys ever cleaned one? Anthing I should absolutely not get cleaner on? I have never owned a turbo car with a MAF so it makes me a little nervous...always had MAP sensors (cheap enough to just replace if it is suspect).

Nope. I have never cared to clean mine. I have always used a filter and it has not been dirty to the point of concern.

Just be careful and use non-chlorinated as mentioned. You should be fine.

BTW - MAP sensors rule!
