should the bible be removed from courts?

Is it ok to still be required to put our hand on the bible to swear to tell the truth.

Clearly not everyone is a Christian.

Thoughts?

Yes, of course they should. I identify as an atheist, so basically i can place my hand on the bible and swear to this book, but then lie, because i dont believe in said book. It would be the same as me swearing on 50 shades of gray...
Anyways, i dont think they do that as much anymore, maybe in the south.

in doing a little bit more research i found that they no longer require swearing on the bible. Most if not all just allow you to affirm that the statements are true.

I've only had to do it here a few years ago when it came to testifying in a hearing for custody of my step daughter. And I had to put my hand on the bible.

To an extent I can fully see why there needs to be something else to swearn on or like you said. As i know my step daughters real father is an atheist and he had no problems lieing on the stand because he didnt believe in the bible. Was just a good thing I did my home work and was prepared to catch him in his lies.

And although I stand for what the bible says. I also have seen so many versions of the bible (the only one id ever truly trust is the first one ever written, which I've never seen) the rest like posted in other threads could have been changed to suit personal needs over time.

In thinking of this issue of removing God/Religion from everything, something comes to mind,....... How can, as those who don't believe call it, a "2000 year old fictional character/story", get so many people upset to the point of protesting, tearing stuff down and burning shit? It's not hurting them or making them do anything they don't want to do. And if it helps somebody improve themselves or get over a tragedy in their lives, who cares?

Think about that for a while,......
