broke at pg project vid and pics

Yup it's broken. First run i granny shifted and pretty much did everything wrong 13.35. Next run I went for it and so far I know I broke an ear on the diff cover, and two halves of the driveshaft are on the ground, not sure if its u joints or a broken drive shaft yet. I am coming to trailer it home tomorrow and I will start looking into it....Pics to come

Sucks, dude. Do they have a place at BIR where you can leave a car for a few days?

Re: broke at pg project thread

If the driveshaft fell out of the car, it is toast. Any dents is no good. It will not be round and will have runout. Time for an aluminum shaft!

Re: broke at pg project thread

Thanks guys. Yes they stored it in the A building for me and my wife was soooo happy to drive down to pick me up. I picked it up and got it home. didnt even want to start looking real hard yet. the u joints connecting the first to second was sheared and gone as well as the last one connecting to the yoke on the rear diff. also the drivers side ear of the diff is broke off. Hope the axles survived...I was nervous and tried to tree the light @ 5,000 rpms and dropped the clutch. Strange part is when I bought the car the kid before me also broke the diff cover, it broke clean off the car. Makes me wonder why? trans and transfer not matched? bad driveshaft from what he did? others? There was noise on decel. Even after the lsd swap. not at first but very soon after.

Re: broke at pg project thread

I've broken a couple, whats nice though is you can just change the rear diff cover and the diff should still be good. I welded up a nice mount on the drivers side of the pinion to bolt to the diff. Basically just like the passenger side on the front of the diff but I welded it it solid to the sub-frame and bolted it up to the diff... No more flex.

Re: broke at pg project thread

thanks to nick i will have the driveshaft thing figured out for sure. also having a spare diff cover is really cool. this time i deff want to have another bracket welded on to the subframe and mount my diff in 4 places instead of 3. i will also be looking at all my bushings for the diff as now imho its just not smart to use the factory settup with the limited supply abd cost of parts.

Holy crap! What causes a diff cover to break unless the ring gear goes through it?

Re: broke at pg project thread

lol hells yeah this will be the third diff cover for this car. 425tq on db dyno and hella sticky track. diff looks fine I will clean it out and put a new cover on but this time I am going to buy the brackets so I will have four mounts for the diff. I will also have to check the bushings out. new driveshaft and I should be good.

Re: broke at pg project thread

So I have been thinking pretty hard about selling my 2.4 short block. It's very bad ass but I was thinking of making a diff. kind of beast. Anyways I decided to change oil and check a few things out. I noticed a gold sparkle to the oil wtf. so I pulled the pan and big time metal in my pan now nooooooo. So i started pulling rod caps and everything looks great, cylinder walls looking good from below as do pistons from what I could see. So I decided to pull the main girdle and yup there it was fuggin thrust bearing was looking pretty burnt as was my eagle forged crank. looks burnt and can feel with my nail. the rest were not as bad as the thrust, but had damage none the less. I never noticed anything wrong. We just dyno the damn thing and made plenty of power. So I will be pulling the short block and it will be decision time. rebuild? or new motor?

Re: broke at pg project thread

90? Either way I think this is a case of having an engine built and reusing things without properly cleaning or just reusing things that should never be reused. or maybe engine builder. Done at archer's. maybe the kid before me fed it metal for breakfast idk. chattery clutch all I can do is speculate.
