Gear Changing Woes

Alright, im havving some issues changing gears when going fast. My first to second shift is great, but then second to third it decides not to engage and it just grinds, then the rest of the gears are good.

Is this as easy as adjusting where my clutch pedal engauges at? or do i need to look elsewhere?

Check the pedal if you want.........I'd change fluid to a good one like GM Synchromesh or BG Synchroshift. The fluid makes all the difference in the world to a DSM tranny. My $.02

I run the GM Synchromesh, mainly because there isn't anywhere here that has anything else, plus my friend works at the dealer and gets me it for like 5 bux/quart. But I'd have to say that I'm really not impressed with it. I can't tell any difference between it and some valvoline stuff from Napa. Maybe the BG Synchroshift is better, but this GM stuff to me is overpriced and and over rated.

You're using the wrong stuff. There are two different types of GM Syncromesh. The common one comes in the round bottle, the kind you want comes in a regular oil type plastic container. It's called BM Syncromesh Friction Modified, and it's damn hard to find.

You can try the fluid first, but it sounds more like a broken shift fork. You'll know if your fluid is silver colored instead of brown.

and that is the stuff that the penzoil stuff is the exact same as? I know the "correct" Synchromesh is the exact same as some penzoil tranny fluid, its just sold under the GM name or whatever. Ya the stuff we've been using comes in a black bottle that is fat and round and then tapers at the top like a funnel type deal. So I've been using the wrong stuff? ahhh horse shit.

Yeah, the regular syncromesh is rebottled under a few labels all having syncromesh in the title. This friction modified stuff seems to be a rarity, even among GM dealers. A parts guy I talked to yesterday seemed to think it was specially for a GM service bulletin.

Regular syncromesh works fine, I've been using it for years. This other stuff is supposed to be good if one of your gears grinds slightly.

then that is the right stuff i was told to get. people on the tuners board were saying that Penzoil and GM sychromesh were the same exact stuff, but just under different lables. And that stuff was supposed to work extremely well. I'm just not impressed at all. I'll prolly either get redline put in there from QPR or order some BG synchroshift from RRE.
