Operation OEM Oldschool - 1994 Eagle Talon TSI AWD

Well I got another 1G DSM but this one is a true gem as you will see later on. I vowed never to get another one but this one was just too good to pass up. I stumbled upon an ad on craigslist while searching in the Milwaukee WI area. The ad was for an automatic Electric Blue Metallic 1994 Eagle Talon TSI AWD with a unbelievable 22,455 original miles!!

My first reaction was, "No way, maybe they meant to say 122,455 original miles." Well I still took the bait and inquired more about the vehicle through texts, emails, and phone calls. I also ran a carfax. Apparently it was being sold by a guy for his father in law's girlfriend. I was a bit skeptical at first but as the pieces fell into the place, it sounded more and more like a real ad.

Then on a Monday, I took the 5 and a half hour trip to Minomonee Falls WI, near Milwaukee WI to see the car. I had it in my mind that if it checks out, I would buy it.

When I saw the car for the first time I was amazed at how clean it was. Everything about it screamed new car. When I test drove it all my senses (except taste) were on overload. I've never seen a DSM like this before. It still had the new car smell. It was like taking a trip back in time.

It was owned by a very nice middle aged woman who's a scientist of some sort. In 1993 she bought the car brand new in Indiana. She said that when she was like 28 or 29 she recieved a bonus from work and all of her friends had nice cars so she wanted a nice car too. She was looking into the Laser until the Talon came out. She said it was a toss up between getting a Talon or a Saturn. I told her with a smile that I'm glad she got the Talon (lol). She said she just basically stored it in an underground heated garage most of its life and took it out now and again. She said that it was basically a toy for her.

Well I paid her, got the bill of sale and title and came home the following day. I bought it with exactly 22,564 original miles. Btw, for anyone wondering, in the state of WI, they keep the plates so I drove home with no plates.

Goals for the Car
My goals are simple. I plan to just keep it as stock as I can and refurbish some of the OEM parts. Maybe bead blast some parts such as the heat shields, rims, and what not and have them powdercoated to mimic the oem color. I do plan to replace all those rusty bolts and screws with SS ones. I will bag and tag the original ones to keep its authenticity. I also plan to rig 2 oil air seperators just because I hate the thought of bypass oil vapers entering the engine. I want to keep things as clean and as OEM as possible.

I feel that this car should really belong to a car collector or something and that its part of DSM history. It shouldn't exist. It's absolutely bone stock. I have alot of respect for people who collect and keep stock cars so I plan to keep it mostly stock.

I plan to undercoat it as soon as possible but enough yap for now, here's some pictures.

When I got it home

The window trim is still black. It's not peeling or faded at all.

Even the door handles look brand new. There's no little scratches made by finger nails when people go to open the door over and over again.

The black top is still black. No fades, dents, dings, or rust on the body. Original paint still shines like new as you can see. The original stickers and elbum are still intact and look brand new also.

Hatch struts still work!!!

Scary how the calipers arn't rusted over yet.

There are a few very little rock chips but nothing major.

I paid $6,500 for it and promised the original owner that I would keep it as stock as I can and take good care of it. She was very nice and said she's glad she's selling it to someone like me.

It was something along the lines of like $18,000 if I remember correctly. I know this because I used to have the original sticker price for a manual 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD but I gave it to the buyer when I sold the car.

I havn't checked with other shops and have only talked to Mark aka TKRPerformance. You should PM him and get a quote. He can do it for you for a price but you'll have to talk to him.

Make sure if you have someone work on that, that they do superior work to keep that car looking as good as it is. Dont let anyone do any janky work on that thing! That is the one 1g that I would own myself if I bought one.

Re: Operation OEM Oldschool - 1994 Eagle Talon TSI AWD

I don't want to drive it in the winter. Actually, I don't want to drive it at all to be honest. I don't have enough money saved for a beater yet :'(

Also this car needs new tires which will set me back about $400 or so and I'm broke as it is. I will try my best to save up for a beater.

As it stands the plan is, fix the small oil leak coming from the oil return tube gasket, get new tires, get it undercoated, get a beater for winter.

This will be a slow project.

Wow, great find. I've had it in my mind for some time that if I found a clean, low mileage 1G AWD, I'd buy it and keep it absolutely stock, restoring it like you're saying. Very nice car, color me jealous.

Re: Operation OEM Oldschool - 1994 Eagle Talon TSI AWD

I went to the local Autozone and picked up a simple steering wheel cover and a pair of rubber floor mats. The steering wheel on this car is mint and I don't want anything wear marks on it. The OEM floor mats are in great condition as well and as funny as it sounds, I want to preserve those as well even though they're just floor mats. I will take/post pics of the interior later.
