E85 fire

I had to drain my tank, and had about a gallon extra that I put in an ice cream bucket. It lit up right away and burned for a solid half hour. Tossed a couple magazines in for good measure, but I wouldn't recommend pouring more on a burning flame. It's a recipe for disaster. Also trying to extinguish an e85 fire with your foot doesn't work. Spreading it around doesn't work either. The fire just gets bigger. I had poured maybe a cup's worth onto a pile of ash I had and lit it with a stick from the other fire. It would not go out. So if you are in fear of a fire like this, get an extinguisher rated for that sort of thing. And if it's in your house, you might want to call the fire department.

Re: E85 fire

I love the walk-around of the fire, as if there's something on the other side of it we are missing out on Fer realz though, e-85 fires are fun! And I recommend a fire extinguisher to anyone whom values their investments.

I was under the impression that if you started E-85 on fire, you would get pop corn... Hmm. Learn something new every day.

Re: E85 fire

So having 40 gallons of E98 around is probably a safety hazard?

We poured some gas from my old tank into a GLH turbo to keep warm one night. Burned for a while too.

Holy crap, yeah it did! I think it went for a good 30 minutes after we stopped adding more fuel.
