darn valves

hi I have a 90 talon tsi awd and all the intake valves are sticking open a bit. I got the car as a project it ran jest fine except it had a nock. it was the balance shafts had spun the bearings so they were bouncing a round. so I jest did the elimination kit for the balance shafts and put a new bearing in the lower end mains and rods bearing. I had to get a good used crank cuz the mains had some nice groves in it and it was cheaper to get a used one then getting the crank out of the car machined. all the bearings oil clearance are with in spec. so I got the motor back in and start jest fine and ran it for a hour or two did not drive it I did this to let the bearing brake in a bit and to see if there were any other problems and no insurance on the car. so I went the next day to move the car and would not start and pulled the plugs and it was flooded but there was no compression a cross all cylinder I found out cuz it was cranking over fast with the plugs in and cranks the same speed with the plugs out. so I had a friend see if any air was coming out of the plug holes and no air came out so pulled the valve cover and tapits on the intake side were all a bit loose. when I had the motor out and before I pulled the motor it was all tight. I can take a screwdriver and pop them back up but when the cam push is it down the valve does not come all the way back up. the timing is on. I have no idea what would make this happen. I need some help to figure this out I really don’t want to have to pull the head. it has all new gaskets. I did not put the them in the kid I got the car from did and did not time it right. he had the oil pump off and the valves to the crank timing was right. I am open to idea to solve this problem.

Did you get the head checked out when you pulled it off? Maybe when the balance shaft was fubar the timing was messed up and valves hit the pistons. Do a compression test yet? Leakdown test? Do it.

sounds like bent valves. the timing probably wasn't set right or jumped some teeth. do a compression test and a leakdown test to see where you are losing compression

The car gets compression when i pull the valves up with a pry bar by putting a little pressures on the valve springs. But the valve does not come all the way back up once the cam presses the valve down and then the motor does not have any compression. All The valves on the intake side do this. The valves on the exhaust side are all in good working order. The timing is on so it did not jump some teeth on the timing belt. I have not been able to get my hands on a compression tester or a leak tester yet. I do know that the motor does have good compression. It is like there is some thing that is on the valve stem that is not allowing the valve to come all the way back up. so I hope this info helps you help me figure this out. This is also my first DSM. Also will the g1 heads that are na turbo the same as the turbo heads cuz if I need to get a used head I know where to get a na head cheap. Your help is really appreciated

still sounds like bent valves. I can't really forsee anything really getting in there and causing them to stick open. you can get a valve job for like $300 which isn't very much to have a basically brand new head

Has the engine ever been over-revved at any point? That could have caused valve float and bent them just enough to make them stick.
