The turbine powered planes can reach those speeds... Very insane. The first time I saw a model jet turbine was very cool. They run off of propane, the same stuff you use in your grill. To fire the engine they turn on the ignitor and blow compressed air into the turbine to get it spinning. Start adding fuel and the turbine starts spooling up, sounds just like the real thing and is equally as loud. They blow smoke during initial start up and sound like it's going to fall apart, but as soon as they get leaned out and increase the throttle you hear a little boom, the smoke stops and it's the most awesome sound you'll ever hear from something so small. They spin the same amount of RPMs as the turbos in our cars, around 200,000.

The closest thing I've been to a jet turbine R/C plane is what's called a ducted fan. It's a piston engine just like any other R/C engine but it drives a multi-blade fan in the fuselage of the plane, sucking air in and forcing it out in the same direction as a real plane. The ones I've witnessed have been clocked well over 200mph. The fastest plane I've flown was a twin engine plane with a 6' wingspan, it was clocked at just over 100mph. Flying R/C planes is the most relaxing thing I've ever done.

Wow that was cool. I normally don't like stuff like that, but that flying was impressive.

I can't download the video here at work but if anyone wants to see some really sweet flying.

I have video's from back when I was competing. of the World Champion, European Champion, Canadian Champion, all trying to out do each other at the Heli Internationals that's held each year.

Curtis Youngblood has been the world Champion since he was 18 (now probably 28)

do a google search and check out his flying. IT's the most unreal/skilled thing I've ever witnessed. Also Video tapes DO NOT do Justice to what it's actually like in real life.

that shit is cool but i have never flown. i was however sponsered by hpi and got clocked at 21.5 mph on a parkinglot road coarse in a battery powered awd rs4 pro. oh and that was stock spec. just modded out a bit but i was not running a mod motor. but i do brake mine in diff. lol just a single turn gm9677 purple bull stock motor. i still have my hpi's rs4 pro, rs4 mt, and i also have a rs4 mini with a pro kit that need to be put together. anyone have a reason for me to put my mini together yet?

RS4 mini.... :razz2: I never understood the point of those.

What did you do to get sponsored by HPI? Back in high school I raced dirt oval and a little off-road, but never had the money to be serious about it. Now that I'm living somewhere that has a lot of tracks/air fields and hobby shops I hope that I can eventually get back into R/C racing or flying.

If I ever get out of dsm's I'll get back in to R/C heli competitions again. But right now I can't afford to do both.

I've seen Curtis Youngblood on video before, and this is right up there... I've seen a lot of 3D heli pilots in person and what this guy does in this video is simply FUCKING AMAZING... A lot of stuff even I have never seen before.

What Brian says is true... If you ever get to see someone fly an R/C heli in person doing tricks like this you will be in awe. Same with R/C aerobatics... The things you can do with a little plane are amazing.

dude minis are cool i just never got mine together. i have all the pro parts that are out now though. they are still 1/10th they just are for sport compact bar bodys. lol this was like back in 97 when i raced for hpi. its kinda a fucked up deal i guess. lol i started some pos team ass stadium truck and did ok just kinda for fun. then some kid i was racing with was selling a traxxas stampede 1 weekend real cheap just the monster truck chassis. so i took it home and made it faster then my team ass stadium truck. thats where things get fucked. lol i started winning races with a monster truck chassis in a stadium truck class. what a joke that was for the first 2 weeks. lol tell more and more tried to do what i did and couldn't. so the owner of the shop where i was racing hooked my up with a traxxas srt it was like the best traxxas made back in like 94 maybe? it was a tank. lol but somehow i made that heavy slug fly and then this guy was selling out of every traxxas part he had. and i had whatever i wanted from his shop after that. so i said call hpi and he did. so i moved on to hpi and went even faster. i'm sure you can get the rest from there.

Man that makes me want to get out my brothers airplane. He has had the damn thing for 5 years and never flown it the fuselage is twisted so it won't fly straight. For thoses of you who have flown sould we try to fly it crocked and if we crash put all the stuff in a new one or just start over with a new fuselage?

Straightening a fuselage is more work than it's worth. The planes are made out of balsa and thin plywood... The slightest amount of moisture is enough to make them warp, and you're better off swapping over the electronics and such to a new plane rather than waste your time and fun trying to make a pile of shit fly straight. A RTF (Ready To Fly) plane isn't too expensive, and would be your best bet if you're serious about learning to fly.

Those were the rage when I was flying last. I've never seen them in the air, but always wanted to fly one.
