My Evo got PWNT tonight.

I was driving along and all of the sudden I see a piece of concrete appear underneath a truck in front of me.... nothing I could do.... heavy traffic.

It sounded very bad..... very very very bad. So I pulled over and look at the front bumper.... it must have just cleared it, I'm worried to see transmission or gear oil all over the underside.

I look underneath and see that my down pipe is caved in to about half the size, the first cross member (the one with three botls) that attaches to the two lower control arms is bent so badly it has torqued the points where it bolts to the lower control arms. I think they're fixable though, hopefully you guys can help me out.

I start to look more, it missed the transmission and all drivetrain components, well it hit the front of the transmission but it appears the transmission was stronger and I really don't see any damage at all.

I keep looking and see it *touched* the break lines and doesn't apear to have damage them at all, hard to tell but I don't even see a kink. It dented the gas tank, hopefully the fuel pump is ok and I guess my gas will cost less, heh. But I CAN see the bare metal, will this rust?

It's been a really bad fucking couple of weeks. I'm worried about it making to MN but with no drivetrain or suspension damage I think it will be ok. I was even lucky enough to have it miss the oil pan.... by about 3 inches.

When I get there I would like to fix the cross member, anyone wanna lend a garage or anything? Does anyone think I'll have any problems or is there anything I should look at?

Ugh.... thanks guys.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Also as a recap, my down pipe is damaged in two different places, I'll need to replace this for sure and I'm in the need for a new cross member bar, I assume this can be driven without this and will be ok, but will be replacing this asap too.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Get some undercoating spray for everything it scraped bare to prevent rusting. I would highly suggest you get the car up on a lift and either inspect everything yourself or have someone else go over it considering you have such a long drive ahead of you when you move. You can safely drive without the stock crossmember bar; many people remove them just like they do the stock undertray. Sucks to hear your car is getting so banged up down there in TX

a nicked brake line will burst sooner rather than later. Time to upgrade to SS lines.......

Everything's bigger in Texas, including the concrete chunks.

Sorry to hear, man. Good luck with it.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

That sucks. I would definatly get it up on a lift and check everything over with a fine tooth comb before you start the drive up here. I'd hate to see something bad happen on your way up.

Also, I have a big ass slide hammer and other tools to do some pulling if anything is bent too bad, and I'd gladly lend a hand.

I may not be able to lend you a garage, but I could lend you a hand if you need some help getting some of it fixed up. Sorry to hear man.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Yeah, that sucks. I think the brake line he was talking about is the metal part, so you don't need to worry about it bursting. I agree that you should at least get it up on jack stands so you can get a good look underneath it. Be sure to rotate the drive shaft so you can see if it is dented anywhere.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Thanks a lot for all your replies guys. I'll get it up on a lift before I drive up there, you guys are right, I should also get a second opinion too.

You guys are great friends and it's a good reminder of why I should move back to where my friends are.

About following closely to the truck, I really wasn't too close... but we were condensing as we were all taking a right in a right turn lane..... and it's really wet out right now. If I had slammed on the brakes I would probably be bitching about this stuff plus a fucked up rear end.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Damn that some carnage!!!

Make sure that brake line wasnt penetrated at all, or bent, otherwise I think you should be ok just replacing the downpipe and the cross bar. The gas tank might be ok if unless you think you want to replace it.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

Wow, that DP is definately toast. I would do like Kracka said and take that bar off since it doesn't seem to be essential. It would suck to have it throw your alignment off and toast a set of tires on the way up.

Re: My Evo got PWNT tonight.

wow, downpipe carnage.

besides the downpipe and bar, everything else looks like it *might* be in pretty good shape, but i would definitly coat the bare metal to prevent some rusting, good luck with the drive up here soon.
