digg.com = pwned
When you're a site based on nothing but community based and provided information never try to control it in your own favor when it's obvious your sponsered by a company that doesn't agree with what's said. Information is meant to be free and this will go down in the history books.
Basically HD DVD has been cracked, the hex drm key was posted and so digg, being sponsored by HD DVD companies started deleting the posts. The userbase didn't agree with it and now digg.com is overrun with pissed off users. Not sure if this will even be going on still in the morning but I figured I would post it, this is a big deal in internet history.
One of these days the MPAA and the RIAA will figure it out that trying to lock content isn't going to work and in some cases even breaks laws.

Re: digg.com = pwned
Trying to keep it from getting out there is impossible.
Companies just need to realize that no matter how much money they put in to making programs/media/anything "hackerproof", it is NOT going to work.
The computer community/internet is WAY too powerful of a tool, and I wouldn't be suprised if any single thing could be hacked in a week if people tried hard enough.
Look at Vista! Microsoft dumped a SHIT TON of money into making it uncrackable. They fucked up bad, because not only is it uncrackable, but now they cant even tell if the key hackers are using is legal or not, because their system doesn't show. Uh oh!
Best bet for companies is to just drop the price some, and give consumers what they really want at a reasonable price. I would be all for buying music if CD's didn't only have 1 good song on them, and the artist actually got more than the 5-10 percent they end up getting.

Re: digg.com = pwned
Yeah digg will die. I never surfed on Digg until tonight, i guess im a fan of destruction.
I really need to figure out how that number really matters and how it is to be used.
This is really funny that the government actually believes it can ban a number.

Re: digg.com = pwned
Hahhaah, the owner of the site posted it in his blog:

"Digg This: 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0
by Kevin Rose at 9pm, May 1st, 2007 in Digg Website
Today was an insane day. And as the founder of Digg, I just wanted to post my thoughts…
In building and shaping the site I’ve always tried to stay as hands on as possible. We’ve always given site moderation (digging/burying) power to the community. Occasionally we step in to remove stories that violate our terms of use (eg. linking to pornography, illegal downloads, racial hate sites, etc.). So today was a difficult day for us. We had to decide whether to remove stories containing a single code based on a cease and desist declaration. We had to make a call, and in our desire to avoid a scenario where Digg would be interrupted or shut down, we decided to comply and remove the stories with the code.
But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, you’ve made it clear. You’d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we won’t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.
If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.
Digg on,
Kevin "

We are losing our rights to freedom of speech for corperate profits. Fight the power.
I truely feel that digg.com did the right thing for the fight for freedom of speech. When it is made Illegal to possess a number, we need to stand up as people in a so called democracy with rights and stand up for those rights.
How much is our freedoms worth?

Re: digg.com = pwned
Hahaha this is great. I love it alot. I hate how the Big Brother is trying to run are lives. And I also agree about prices too. Almost 300 dollars for a OS program. When what Apples is cheaper or even free? And Unix and Linux is also cheaper or free too. Microsoft is all about the dollar. They wont realize what they are doing.
So now HD can be burned. Now its Bluerays turn.

Re: digg.com = pwned
Ok so basically, someone cracked a code that people obviously do not want posted publicly. Thus legal action is being imposed? And people are pissed off why?

There's a bigger picture here. It's not just the fact that they posted a key, it's the fact that the companies are even trying to put DRM on media that should be legally possible to copy (for personal use).
Yes piracy is a problem, but we're in the digital age and the corporations need to stop thinking like we're in the 80's with analog media and start thinking of the future. For instance TV is changing and won't ever be the same and advertising companies are starting to figure out how to still make money, maybe the MPAA and the RIAA should do the same.
There's a lot more to it than just that, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Here is where this all began. if you start from the first page it goes through the entire process of cracking this key. Its pretty crazy the minds these guys have to understand just how encryption works etc.

Re: digg.com = pwned
Basically what the big fuss about all of this was that its about the US government putting regulations on information on the internet, Censorship, and the control of information that should be public. It gives rights to the MPAA and RIAA to censor websites from disclosing information submitted by a person. The US Government does not own the Internet and never will, it is owned by the people and will always be owned by the people. This has a huge impact on what we all do on a daily basis. Its bad enough that the mass media censors to get public approval for government actions, if we let the government take our last form of unregulated information we will become slaves to what we read. If the government gives rights to the MPAA and RIAA to give out cease and desist orders to websites, who’s next? Giving another organization to give out cease and desist orders for talking bad about the war and government? That’s what we call communism.
What would happen to 'Style if all of the sudden certain items that talk about George Bush suddenly disappeared because the governement allowed the republican party to censor certain items that could prove he went into this war for oil instead of the search for WMDs?
