Lovely day coming home from the races
Went to the dragstrip today, saw about 300 14 second and slower honda's driven by asians, and a few nice cars. On the way home, for some reason I had this huge exhaust leak. I pull over and check it out, nothing seems to be getting damaged, so I continue. About half way home, I stop at a stop sign and all of the sudden I see blue smoke rolling out from under the hood, I quick pull over and shut the car off when I see I have 0 oil pressure.
Take a look, oil EVERYWHERE in my driver's side wheel well. So I make a few calls, and find a trailer. My dad arives with the trailer, and we take her home. Apon further inspection, I see the downpipe must've blown completely off the o2 housing and melted some of the plastic oil pressure line hose away.
So, tuesday I get to change the oil, bolt up the downpipe, and run a new line to the gauge. I just really hope nothing is damaged, this engine isn't cheap. This picture says it all:

As of right now, no. We'll see how it is when we're there. If I feel comfortable, then ya.
Take my name off the list though, don't want to leave anyone out that wants a spot.
Should have her fixed by then, along with some other things. Really want to slap on the 1g eclipse spoiler, but it needs to be painted black first. Exhaust should be run up better too by then, since me and Jake worked things out.
Time will tell.
Today was just the weirdest thing ever though. She ran like a top the whole hour and 15 minutes it took to get there. But as soon as I left the dragstrip, I heard the exhaust leak. Just doesn't make sense.

Who drives the white Evo? And, what did it run? I only caught the last 20ft of the run but, it looked pretty quick.

Haha, yea dude. That chute was funny. Why didn't they let you run it?
TKR: The plastic line was on it when I bought it, but this time around I'm following the proper ways.....when something breaks, upgrade it. Steel braided line ftw.
Kind of suprised me. Weren't many impressively fast cars there. Pretty cool Luke's 240 ran a 12.8 @ 105. WAAAAYYYY too many 14 second Honda's though. That green widebody FD had some nice body work, but I didn't see him run any faster than a 13 flat.

Re: Lovely day coming home from the races
Was this at Rock Falls yesterday(Sunday) or what? If so, the real race cars must of hated all the street cars there because the street tires tear up the launch pad. Yesterday was the first points race at the Rock.

There were no real race cars. The fastest car I saw was an EVO running low 12's. Somebody else saw someone run an 11 flat. I started out with a 15.5 and wittled my time down to a 14.3 with the 2G. Stock 7-bolt with 193K miles, stock turbo, and no wideband or fuel control. I just threw a boost controller on it and cranked it up. The clutch and synchros weren't liking a hard launch or shifts so I kinda babied it. My only addition to it before I left was adding an amp and a sub for the ride out there. When it came time to leave I didn't have to do anything, not even air up the tires and all my tools stereo and such was along for the ride on all passes. It was a pretty good time.

Re: Lovely day coming home from the races
Hey Steve- Man, 14's is a long way from your normal 11's What's with your other car(the fast one)? On jackstands like everyone else? My tranny is just about together. I still have the entire engine to assemble yet.
I'm surprised that no real cars were out on a points race day. Probably just too early yet or people are cutting back this year. Shit, I think Corda is making most his money off the imports and other street cars these days.

I've been too busy to work on my own car. It just needs a few more little things, the xfer case recall tomorrow, and I gotta get it tuned up on E85. For right now, I'm just having fun taking it to McDonalds for lunch every nice day we get. Plus I think I might subconsciously be a little scared to drive it at full boost with the current setup. It's fast as heck just tooting around on pump.

Re: Lovely day coming home from the races
Got her fixed up tuesday. Was pretty simple, really. I didn't get a new steel braided line, I just cut the plastic one, put a new end on it, and ran it to where the stock signal sender was located. I then put the stock one in the front where the aftermarket one was tapped into.
On a side note, I love driving my car when she's running right. On the trip to the dragstrip, thinking back to it, it was decent as a driver. I didn't get uncomfortable at all, the engine ran perfect, everything just worked.
She has her issues, but it's expected from an abused, redneck hacked 17 year old car. It'll just take some time and money, but the end result will be something I'm proud of.
Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face when I'm cruising in my car with the windows down listening to Rush and my 4g63t.
EDIT: Quick question. I put in Valvoline 10w30 for my oil change, and now when I start it up in the morning, I get lifter tick for a little bit. Could that be caused by the incident or is it the oil change?

Re: Lovely day coming home from the races
If the tick go's away don't worry about it. Its just the lovely Mitsu lifters. If you really want no tick replace them with the new ones.
Sounds great you got your car running again.

The engine is brand new, little over 300 miles on it so far. It still ticks when new?
