Iraq audit: waste, fraud costs U.S. tens of millions

Kind of a simple article that goes over some of the spending in Iraq.

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20...nt_5680325.htm

Some crib notes:

* U.S. officials spent another 36.4 million dollars for weapons such as armored vehicles, body armor and communications equipment that can't be accounted for.

* According to the report, the State Department paid 43.8 million dollaars to contractor DynCorp International for the residential camp for police training personnel outside of Baghdad's Adnan Palace grounds that has stood empty for months. About 4.2 million dollars of the money was improperly spent on 20 VIP trailers and an Olympic-size pool, all ordered by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior but never authorized by the U.S.

We had a pool at the base I was at over there. Nothing nicer then sweating your balls off all day, being in that misserable heat, and then getting to jump in a pool 2 times a week.

I think at the very least you guys should have shit like that. I'm confused on all this money can be spent on something and then it never gets used though.

Well if you add all this onto the total amount spent these unaccounted portions don't add up to even 0.5%. Thats a small fraction that is lost or unaccounted for though its still a high number when people like us look at it. As for equipment I know there are many things that get lost over there and are written up as combat losses so I'm not surprised at that part. The rest of it seems to be questionable dealings with dyncorp which the article makes out to be a very suspicious company. Interesting article though.

You've obviously never looked into general government spending here in the US. There's a reason that military personnel always refer to things like a $250 toilet seat. Look up some of the stuff Clinton approved, that'll keep you busy for a while.

Re: Iraq audit: waste, fraud costs U.S. tens of millions

Why does Clinton have to be brought into this? Did he hurt you personally? Did you make significantly less money during his administration? From what I've heard from people (adults who worked in the same field then as now), most people made more under him than under Bush. I just don't get it - it's been the better part of a decade since he was in office, yet it's still the best argument republicans can come up with.

Anyway, there should be more accounability in government spending.

Re: Iraq audit: waste, fraud costs U.S. tens of millions

Clinton was brought into this not because he hurt my bottom line, which he would have nothing to do with anyways, but his approval of government spending in a lot of areas. It's been a while since I read a lot of it, but he was one of the biggest presidential spenders of all time, and not surprisingly some which helped his friends and business partners. Hmmm.

I'm not talking about his getting blowjobs in the oval office, or declassifying top secret weapons documents so the Chinese could get their hands on it to use against us, I'm simply pointing out when it comes to government spending, nobody loves Clinton like the prisoners getting free sex changes on the government nickel.
