Question Computer/Laptop question

i have a compaq presario x1000, there are 2 ports that i never use, the monitor and think printer ports. Is there anywhere that i can my laptop and have them converted to serial (9-pin) so that i can run my dsmlink faster and also wideband.
Dsmlink just seems so laggy on my computer and it sucks.
The laptop is pretty good and there is no real need to upgrade it.
I think it has 512mb ram, 40gb HD, 1400mhz processor.

Re: Computer/Laptop question

So does the laptop have a serial port at all, or how are you connecting the DSMlink to it?

Re: Computer/Laptop question

Get a serial to usb connector, Check the site it lists the ones that work with dsmlink and have been proven. otherwise if your computer doesnt have a serial port, i believe you can get a PCMCIA card that has a serial port on it.

Re: Computer/Laptop question

there is an adapter for lt1 to convert it to serial.

the question is, can you tell the software to see it as com1.

as i've never even seen dsmlink, i couldn't tell you

as tom stated earlier. get a keyspan usb-serial. the software allows you to make a pretend com1.

Re: Computer/Laptop question

The PCMCIA cards are usually much faster than a USB to serial adapter.

Re: Computer/Laptop question

thx for the help all, yeah right now i am using a usb to serial adapter, the keyspan one. But i am not happy with the speed or connectivity.
I really don't want to buy another laptop just to tune with, when i have a perfectly nice one that i should be able to use.

Re: Computer/Laptop question

yeah i would say get the PCMCIA card.
If it shows up as a different Com Port, you can switch it in DSMLink.

Yep, I agree, the PCMCIA card is the way to go; much faster and compatible on DSMLink
