You have no problem. That is just how the Auto's are. I test drove a 97 GS-T spyder. You get on it and it goes no where. A manual has a lot more kick in it. My old integra felt faster than the Auto eclipse.

Thats not true, yeah they are going to be doggy from the start when you just punch the gas but once the turbo spools there isn't too much difference. The shifting stiffness isn't there but the car shouldn't lack the power. You are going to experience some drivetrain loss from the auto tranny but its not going to be significant enough to make you feel like its N/A or something.
What he is describing is common with 2G autos, they are really hard on end clutchs and torque converters. The reason being is they are extremely heat sensitive and if they reach over 200 degrees too often stuff wears out fast. The only way to cure it is with a aftermarket tranny cooler and maybe some good fluid.
