New head unit installed

Last week I picked up a Pioneer AVIC-D3 from a co-worker for pretty cheap and got it installed (mostly). The only things left are to secure the microphone and GPS antenna, oh and seal the area around it, there is a small gap on each side. Took about 3 hours total, I thought it would take a lot longer to route the wiring but it wasn't bad at all.

It's pretty cool, I've never had a navigation system before, and it speaks the directions to you while muting the radio or whatever. It came with the bluetooth adapter and the iPod hookup cable too, which saved me quite a bit.

One feature I really like is it can change the background images, color scheme, and button colors to match your interior. I also like that it's not motorized, otherwise it could hit the shifter. There are so many options I haven't even set everything up yet.

Unfortunately my iPhone's bluetooth is crippled so it can't send the phonebook to the unit, I'll have to enter them manually unless I can get my computer to spoof the bluetooth address and pretend to send the phonebook entries from the iPhone.

Here's a few pics I took with my phone on the way home today.

Just uses the phone's functionality, just like a bluetooth headset with a nicer interface is all.

Good memory, it's now in my scooby. I use it everyday and love it, I haven't set it up for using my cell with it though. I love how it plays your ipod with the controls on the face, but it sucks in that it doesn't have any kind of indexing or quick scroll to get to artists quickly. It always starts with A and you have to tab down every time, slowly. That and it's hard to adjust the little volume dial when you're bouncing up and down with a rock hard suspension. And there's no quick adjustment of treble or bass when every song on your ipod is a different EQ mix. Minor points, overall it's a kickass headunit.
