Re: new bmw TT v8

It is interesting, I'll give it that.

Intercoolers look small.

Direct injection is cool.

Vband style turbo flange is nice.

Reverse flow from almost all other V platforms is cool.

Throttle by wire I do not like.

Too bad the rest of the car will fall apart, and the car will depreciate 50% in 3 years.

I don't know if I've ever seen the turbos mounted on top of a V motor like that, I love it! Direct injection, COP, what kind of displacement is this thing going to have? Looks freaking wicked!

Very cool. I wonder what will happen with the massive amount of heat being generated between the heads.

Yup, I was wondering the same. The hood/paint seems like it could have issues with that kind of heat as well. Then when crazy people like us start bolting up larger turbos making more heat.. abusing it more.. it just seems like it could have many side effects sitting up top.

Re: new bmw TT v8

Air to water seems like a pain in the ass. Not to mention the limitations on cooling with higher boost, or larger turbos. I guess it's ok for OEM, they will just tune the thing so friggin safe it will have a lot left for people who fix the shortcomings and tune it a bit more aggressively.

My guess is that it'll go in the M5. Looks pretty sweet. Any ideas how much power it'll make?

Ever seen under the hood of a Buick Grand National? Heat shields worked great back then and I am sure with the advancements in composites and different coatings there wont be an issue now.

Yeah, I have, but it isn't like this where everything is sitting inside the "V" and directing heat like a heater. I wouldn't doubt we see ten year old, high end bimmers with horrible hood paint issues.
