Mars Once 'Drenched with Water,' NASA Says
Tue Mar 2, 2004 02:13 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mars was once "drenched with water," so much that life could easily have existed there, NASA said on Tuesday.
The robot explorer Opportunity has seen clear evidence of the main goal of Mars exploration -- that water once flowed or pooled on the Red Planet's surface.
"Opportunity has landed in an area of Mars where liquid water once drenched the surface," NASA associate administrator Ed Weiler told a news conference. "Moreover, this area would have been good habitable environment."

yeah, it's like that one mars movie. we were all martians at one time and our planet was getting screwed so we said, leave, an came to earth, but brought all our water with. and the greater gravity shortened us and the oxygen made is really dumb and we had to work ourselves back up to where we are today and eventually we will have to switch planets again.

There actually is fairly good evidence our "ancestors", microbial ones that is, may have came from mars. They found a meteorite, that came from mars, which may have microbial fossils(still being debated). That meteorite hit earth about 3 billion years ago, right around the time life started to appear here.

I don't think they've determined anything with an absolute certainty.I don't see how it would even be possible to prove it or disprove it.

"Following the latest news from NASA we think it is now likely that evidence of past life on Mars will be found in the coming years," said spokesman Warren Lush.
The odds on past life on Mars were 16/1 when the book closed, down from 1000/1 when the first bets were taken in the 1970s.
