AMS is working on some awesome designs. And they are probably the only people out their actually testing their designs on a dyno. Personally, I think you could do just about anything with a decent sized plenum and short runners and get a good power gain, the stock intake manifolds are so anti-topend power that just about anything works. Look at my pos old school Magnus, it is held together with silicone couplers and the runners don't even line up with each other. With it on my 2.0l, my power didn't start to drop until 8300RPMs, compared to 6500-7000RPMs on a stock intake, and it has made 660whp so far on my 2.4l. To get something special enough to blow away a basic design would take a lot of work and testing in a controlled environment on a dyno.
