DB built you a motor, it failed, they can't promise you a timeframe to get another one done, so what right would they have to be pissed no matter who you chose to build your next engine...their rival or not?

Frankly, had their engine not failed you wouldn't be in this situation. Now note, I am not blaming DB, engines fail...unfortunately that's part of the risk we take in the modding game.
