Why would you ever use RTV when a gasket is available? Unless your cheap/lazy. We weren't talking rtv leaking, even though his oil pan looked like it was leaking. It was the fact that rtv going through the oil pump may not be the best idea. The lil holes for the oiling of the pump could be clogged. There was rtv chunks on the pickup tube screen, so it did eat some RTV at some point. I do not know if the oil pump plate was aftermarket or not, but the stub shaft definatly was and did not have the oiling grove in it which is an epic fail in my book cause there is 2 holes in that bearing which means that oil is supposed to flow somewhere, which it isn't going to with out a oil grove on the shaft. just my $.10
