It wasnt dirt at all, its that we were decending through a brown fog called SMOG. It was sickening. And if we can do anything to eliminate this or cut down on this, the world would be safer and cleaner.

Have you been to LA before the year 2000? I have been going out there twice a year since since 1982 to visit family and lived in San Dimas for about a year back in 1991 and I can tell you it has gotten
alot better since then. And over that whole time we have been using petrolium based fuels. Modern technoligy with computerized fuel injection and modern emissions controls has killed smog damn near dead in its tracks.
90% of the smog you see in LA is still there from the 60's and 70's when we were burning leaded gas and very poor diesel fuels compared to today and we had basically no emmissions equipment. (much like some DSMrs I know lol)
Hydrogen cars run off fresh water and that is a problem to me. I would rather worry about running out of crude than running out of drinking water. Eathonal is a great alternative once we can get the process streamlined but it still pollutes almost as much as petrolium based fuels.
