Keep in mind that I'm 37 and started in IT as a CNE in `95. My title these days is 'network architect' at a Fortune-500 company. You don't start out there...you spend a decade busting your butt.
My undergrad is in business but I have a list of industry certifications longer than your arm. I'm not going to pretend that I know what employers look for at the entry level anymore, but my masters thesis is on the confluence of formal education, industry certification and experience when making hiring decisions (no kidding). These are your pillars...if you are weak on your degree then you should consider overcompensating on the other two.
