I wonder if the MAFT/AFC is sucking up too much current on the tach signal. I have had problems on other cars after installing stuff like AFCs, AVCRs, nitrous window switches, etc with the stock tach going all goofy. The 90s are a bit different then the 91-99 as far as ignition and tach signal go, for example you need to buy a tach adapter for a 90 if you want to run an MSD DIS-2 ignition box.
