How big of Intercooler piping?

The engine is a 750cc Weber Parallel Twin Four-Stroke and uses natural aspiration standard, and it’s rated at 80 hp. However, get the turbo version that adds a small K03 turbo that spins up to 200,000 rpm and watch it crank up to 135 hp. Get the Polaris 2007 reflash and you are at 150 hp.

Now my goal is to make 170-210 hp out of this engine, I've heard they can make 250+ hp.

Here are the mods I plan on using:

15.5" x 7.5" x 4" FMIC
Ported Garrett GT2854R Turbo
Custum Tubular Header
3.5" Aluminium Intake with AMSOIL Air Filter
Polished Ebay Oil Catch Can
Some sort of exhaust once everything else is in place

Now I guess how big of Intercooler piping should I go with, I was thinking 2"?

2" sounds about right.

wouldnt 1.75 be a little more suited for the application

Besides all of us just guessing, have a more technical reason?

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

The reason I would like to use 2" piping is because the intercooler I intend on using is an upgrade for a Toyota MR2. It just happens to be about the same size as stock intercooler on the FST only a lot thicker.

It also has 2" inlet / outlets on the end tanks and even has tabs in the same spot for mounting the intercooler and retaining the stock fan on the back of the intercooler for cool down.

Sounds like you should just go with 2" piping then.

2" is pretty big for such a small motor but it wont "not" work.

Yea sounds like 2" would be easiest. Turbo have 2" compressor outlet?

Not sure off the top of my head, I'm assuming smaller?

I just know that the compressor outlet is pointing where I need it to be (towards the FMIC) with the type of header I want made.

Actually am thinking of going with the GT2854R instead of the GT2554R now but who knows what I can find a good deal on at the time.

those are both way oversized for your application. I'm sure they make something smaller.

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

From what I have researched (can't find a whole lot) people who have upgraded to the GT25R haven't seen significant amounts more of turbo lag.

Also read a little about a guy who had a Wicked Racing turbo kit on his FS-T that made 255+ hp on a 16g. However I couldn't find much out on his kit as Wicked Racing doesn't exist anymore and he has since sold his sled.

Edit - I'm open to suggestions on turbos, its just the stock turbo is way to small for my liking...

A local (Jordan @ MAP) put a stock Evo 16G on his sled.

Now that sounds fun!

I was originally thinking a MHI EVO III 16g because they are cheap and badass but that would be some crazy intercooler piping haha.

1 Attachment(s)
I attached a few photos.

That is a GT25R on a FS-T, basically similar setup I would like to go with.

Also stock intercooler vs. ebay CXRacing intercooler and GT25R vs Stock Turbo.

looks like a big exhaust housing to be spooling :D

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

just a thought, what if you had a cold air intake directly from outside. Would you need the intercooler or are you running high boost

Forced Fed 08-05-2009 05:26 PM

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

Stock boost for a winter, then eventually switch to E85 (even though winter blend sucks) for more boost and to have extra exhaust gasses to spool the "monster ;)" turbo.

I've been trying to figure out how much boost FS-Ts run stock, I saw somewhere a company was selling a stage 1 reflash that was 18.5 psi but that seems a little high?

So intercooler is needed, plus they tend to overheat easily as is because of the turbo, that's why they had the reflash in 07 to help correct the over heating problem. Funny enough the reflash gives an extra 15 hp.

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

Hmmmm... Found a 1g SMIC in storage tonight that is in mint condition.

Who could reweld the inlet / outlet piping to make it work for my set up and for how much?

I also wouldn't have to use 2" piping anymore which would make fabricating the new hard piping much easier. :D

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

No point in going with bigger IC piping than your turbo outlet pipe. I would figure out the turbo, make the IC piping the same size as the outlet pipe. 2" sounds big to me as you have such a small engine.... Depends on the turbo.

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

i wouldn't bother intercooling an e85 sled. keep it simple.

Forced Fed 08-11-2009 01:24 AM

Re: How big of Intercooler piping?

Stock it comes with an intercooler, shouldn't I atleast retain the original intercooler?

Or swap it for something better like a 1g SMIC I have laying in my living room for basically free, just reweld the endtanks?

Edit - There is room under the hood for it to sit like a normal FMIC, it wouldn't be a top mount or anything.
