2G's are safe

So yeah, I hit a 10 foot tall STEEP(nearly 90 degree) dirt embankment at a near triple digit speed, launching my car high enough in the air to see tree tops(25-35 feet if I had to guess) and about 30-35 feet forward stopping about 3 feet from a shitload big trees.Anyway I only fucked up my back from hitting the ground and I have a cut on the side of my head, I am VERY impressed how well the 2g took it, and saved me from serious injury.Even the police couldn't believe it, and they see alot of accidents.I always assumed I would be dead if I ever got into an accident, but the 2g saves the day.

LightningGSX 12-11-2004 06:30 AM

PS Airbags are fucking great!!!

JDM 12-11-2004 06:40 AM

Holy Crap.

Thank God you're alive...

Triple digit speeds huh? You're a lucky man.

Iceman 12-11-2004 07:12 AM

Sounds like a hell of a ride. Glad your alright though.

Jakey 12-11-2004 09:37 AM

Damn, glad to see you're alright!

Matt D. 12-11-2004 09:48 AM

Wow, that's crazy. Glad you're okay. Any pictures of the scene or the wreckage?

SuperSleeper 12-11-2004 09:49 AM

Footage would be better... sounds like a blast. haha

LightningGSX 12-11-2004 10:18 AM

As soon as I can move again, I'll take some.I can't believe my friend and I made it out alive, and relatively uninjured is even more unbelievable.Seriously, the car jumped like it was right out the Dukes of Hazzard.

TheBlizzard 12-11-2004 10:37 AM

I always felt pretty safe in my 2G as well. It just seemed like a big heavy pig for a sports car for some reason. I never jumped it to find out though.

Want to explain what happened?

MATCHBX 12-11-2004 11:24 AM

So what kind of ticket are you facing? Triple digit speed is illegal unless you are on a track. Where did this happen? Sorry if I sound sceptical but I doubt some of the "facts" that you are presenting to us. Any street car taking on that much abuse would be folded up. If the embankment was nearly 90 degrees, your car would've folded up into an accordion, that's what they are designed to do with their crumple zones. Sorry, gotta throw the BS flag here. Too many variables not adding up. Or maybe the story was a bit embellished (sp?)

Glad to hear you are ok though.

tpunx99GSX 12-11-2004 11:24 AM

Hell yeah sounds like a blast, but thankfully your alright. That would have been awesome to see though.

It happened out by treasure island, and It happened exactly like I described it, no BS what so ever. After it happened I was looking at the bank, and I would've thought it should've stopped the car dead in its tracks.I didn't really check the damage out, but from what I hear from the towing company and the cops, its easily totaled, and I wouldn't be suprised if the unibody did in fact fold, or at least bend quite a bit.I did notice the front end folded under, making sort of a sled shape, which may explain how it launched off the bank.I don't know, but the bank was steep, I was going too fast, and the old lightning mobile got some pretty good air.

MustGoFaster 12-11-2004 11:53 AM

Wow. Good to hear your realativly unharmed.

AJ 12-11-2004 11:55 AM

Damn, that's insane. Just glad your ok and not only able to walk away but just having the ability to post it up after that is somethign I wouldn't expect.

I can believe that you had the accident, I just found it hard to believe that you would've flown 30 or so feet up in the air and walked away. Maybe 5 or so feet I can believe, but 30 feet is as high as a 3 story building. You would've landed either on the nose of the car or on the rear bumper or worse flipped all the way over. Cars aren't as balanced as the movies make them look.

Like I said, I'm glad to hear you guys are ok. But I am still curious to hear what kind of a ticket you are facing for this one.

TheBlizzard 12-11-2004 12:13 PM

He already said he doesn't want to explain, so I doubt hes going to.

I't not about balance, it's about how it left the ground. If one end leaves with more upward acceleration than the other it will flip. It's just like droping a golf ball and bowling ball off the top of a building, they make it down at the same time cause gravity. But we should start a new thread if we want to disscuse jumping cars.

Embelished or not the car was fucked up pritty good from the sounds of it, and Eric is alive to tell about it. That's what matters

Raptor 12-11-2004 02:09 PM

Excellent, Eric survived and another 2G is off the road! J/K Eric, seriously I am glad you are okay. Sounds like a nutty ride. Remember when I said you drove like a maniac hahaha?

JET 12-11-2004 03:07 PM

I am glad you are ok Eric. I have also had the pleasure of jumping a car (a nice 78 Malibu). I was 20 feet in the air, so Erik can kiss my ass ;) If you were still hauling ass after you hit the bank, the trajectory would still be fairly flat if you got 25 - 30 feet in the air, so that car wouldn't be as messed up as if it just fell 30 feet straight down.

Anyway, glad you are alright. Have you thought about what you are going to get now?

jdr_fatbob 12-11-2004 03:28 PM

Oofs sorry to hear bout that dude. Glad your ok, but sorry that your car is totaled, man that sucks.

1QUICK4 12-11-2004 06:04 PM

Damn dude, sounds like you got somebody looking out for you up there.

niterydr 12-11-2004 08:44 PM

Sounded like fun now that you are okay. I have always felt somewhat safe in the dsms for crashing reason, but my stealth is that much 'safer feeling' imho.
Now that im driving the tempo, I feel like a sardine in a somewhat smushed can.
Glad your okay, hopefully we can get some photos when you recover.
Best of luck in any/all future court visits.

Read the part about the bank being 10 feet tall and almost 90 degrees. Impossible that a low car would even go up the bank. 10 feet is one story high. Are you telling me that you would fly 30 feet out (not 30 feet high, but 30 feet out) after hitting such a bank? If you did, you would be endo-ing. I've seen people hit banks that are almost 10 feet tall head on at over 60mph with cars that were slightly raised and they stop!! They may climb the bank a little, but they don't go over it.

As far as damage, it depends on if the landing was sloped or not. If a car drops straight from 30 feet it will do alot of damage. If it has a gradual slope downward to a flat landing, it will still do very substantial damage to the car. 30 feet is 30 feet no matter how you look at it.

As was said before, he was in a huge accident and thankfully he is alive and intact. That is the main thing. I won't whore up this thread anymore.

TalonFiero 12-12-2004 11:35 PM

Glad to hear you and your friend are alive. I'll have to buy you a beer sometime after you recover and you can tell me all about it. :D

BTW, how messed up is your back and how did your friend end up after the accident?

Get well soon!

Jim

Jana 12-12-2004 11:39 PM

Yeah, glad to hear you are ok too Eric.

I guess I'm just confused on how the whole thing happened. It does sound a little crazy, but since you don't want to go into details I will just be left confused.

Matt D. 12-12-2004 11:42 PM

Let's just assume he was getting road head and wasn't paying attention. ;)

Jana 12-12-2004 11:43 PM

It better have been great road head for screwing up a car like his 2g that much. :D

LightningGSX 12-13-2004 01:34 AM

I had 2 friends with me(both male, so no roadhead). My back is pretty fucked up, I can barely move or breathe without being in pain, doctors say its just sprain muscles though. When I hit the bank(launched) I felt a severe jolt to my back, and an even worse jolt when the car landed. My friend in the passenger seat has some broken ribs(from the seat belt), a concussion(he was knocked out cold for a few minutes) and some pretty good cuts/roadrash from the airbag. My other friend in the backseat was uninjured.

If you guys give me a password to get into the private forums I will explain what happened.

LightningGSX 12-13-2004 03:41 PM

The preliminary damage estimate is $9400, thats not including the frame damage, any underhood/engine damage or tires yet(all four blew out). The ins company said the value of the car is $11,800, so yeah its looking pretty totaled.
