'99 GS-T
Some of you may know this car from my '95 TSi AWD thread, but for those of you who don't I figured I would start a separate thread just for the Eclipse.
Here are some older pictures. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2191.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2214.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2218.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2241.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2293.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_2368.jpg For some of you, this picture may help you recognize the car a little better. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...IMG_0004_3.jpg I do not have recent pictures of it, but not much has changed besides some MAPer decals in the side windows. One thing that has changed is that I no longer drive it. The reason for that is, I believe it has a bad or blown head gasket. The last time I went down to the Minneapolis area it started overheating. It finally got to the point where my friend and I had to just sit on the side of the road at midnight, waiting for it to cool down. I added water to the overflow every time we stopped. That helped us get all the way home. Even the guys I work with were telling me it was a head gasket (I work for NAPA). Just be watching for some changes in the future for this car. I can honestly tell you, there will be :D Stay tuned. Thanks for looking! |
Re: '99 GS-T
Well it turns out the head gasket is fine. The radiator cap was letting it overheat and causing the overflow to gurgle. That is good because I can drive the car now. This doesn't change the fact that I am going to be building it a little bit.
Here are a few pictures of some of the parts I have collected thus far. Egay manifold and o2 housing. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...4112319-00.jpg 4in' K&N filter with 90* bent 4in' pipe, with an FP intake. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...4112321-01.jpg Aeromotive Compact AFPR http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...4112323-00.jpg And a semi-shaved VC. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...4112323-01.jpg I still need to finish paying for this but; a dirty MHI E3 16g. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...2111859-01.jpg I have other things like a God-speed intercooler and piping. I'll be picking up some cams for it soon as well. |
Re: '99 GS-T
Looks like a clean car. De-ricing the interior will help a lot too.
I have to ask, why the ebay manifold? |
Re: '99 GS-T

I orginally bought the manifold and o2 housing for my Talon, but figured I would put it on this car since the manifold it has was once cracked and welded, and I'm already going to have to take the head completely off. That and I can plan around with porting it alittle. Why? Would you just not use one? |
Re: '99 GS-T
I would suggest not trying to port the head yourself, and sell the ebay manifold and just get a ported 2g manifold
|

As for the exhaust manifold, pickup a FP exhaust manifold or an EVO 3 manifold. Both are proven log style manifolds and cast, so they won't crack on you like the eBay tubular. |

That GST was very clean at the cookout. I'd rather pay $80-$100 for a ported 2g manifold then gamble with the Egay manifold ;) Sell it and get the Fp Manifold or the 2g manifold. Very clean GST. Keep it clean and keep it off the Egay parts. Do it the right way now so it doesn't kick you in the ass later. Good luck :) |

How about the o2 housing? Is that going to work well enough? |
Re: '99 GS-T
I never realized you work at Napa. Is it the one in Wadena?
|
Re: '99 GS-T
Honestly if it were me, i'd find an uncracked 2g manifold and port it out to match a 7cm turbine gasket.

How's having adam for a boss now?

Re: '99 GS-T
Just wondering did you have the shock tower repaired or something because I see that you have black paint on it.
My eclipse is alot like yours, but i have some surface rust on the the drivers side shock tower that Im planing to repair |

I guess it is one of those things you have to experience for yourself to understand. You know? How about you? You guys are under Adam, aren't you? |

I can literly see light if I put my head next to the metal and look between the welds. I would really like to pull the engine and redo the engine bay. The driver's side is starting to rust too. The car could also use a paintjob. |
Re: '99 GS-T
Holy hella' old pictures! This thread needs an update.
These are older pictures, but still better than the ones that are currently up. Oldest to newest.. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r..._2463081_n.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...e%20GS-T/2.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...00271474_n.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...00414955_n.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...70348968_n.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...57677819_n.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_3375.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_3360.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...T/100_3424.jpg So yeah, I like taking pictures of this car if you haven't already caught on. Since I last posted I have completely de-riced the exterior, and pretty much cleaned up the interior. After that I tinted a few things, put a new valve cover on, installed a short throw, and put a new starter in it...that's about it. Well up until Saturday anyway. When this happened.. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...74814964_n.jpg I have no clue what happened. I was just driving then saw a lot of steam. At first I though it was smoke and I almost wanted to freak. Then when I didn't smell burnt wire and saw this, http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...93377306_n.jpg I figured it out. Hahahaha Mishimoto radiator on the way to take the old ones place. I just hope I'll be able to make it to Proving Grounds. |
Re: '99 GS-T
Updated engine bay picture as of this morning at 6:00AM. I stole a few parts off of the Talon. lol
http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...s4life/new.jpg Now I am trying to fix the car for good before Proving Grounds. It threw codes P0170 & P0125. More freaking money.. |
Re: '99 GS-T
You should just steal the dtivetrain from the talon and swap this thing.

......doesn't everyone love when that isht happens?! Anyway; another thread resurrection from the dead as I am so famous for doing. So what I did this past weekend was remove the engine and transmission from the car. There are a few reasons for this and I'll run over them "quickly". The car started giving me issues with shifting about two years ago. It was primarily 1st to second. It ended up not allowing me to downshift to 4th or 2nd after I reached 5th gear. I would have to bring the car all the way to a stop, put it into 1st then slam it into second. Then all would be fine. Besides the ever so often grind. Then all of the sudden I just lost 2nd, 4th and reverse. So I suspected the shifter cables or end bushing as I had literally just redone the shifter base. So I replaced the bushings with solid inserts/bearings. I also looked at the cables and didn't notice anything wrong. The car also burnt oil in an odd way. If I would touch boost at all when I came to a stop I would have a white cloud pass me. I suspected the valve stem seals as well as possibly the turbo. |

With those issues, plus 180,000ish miles I figured I might as well rebuild it since I am in the perfect position to do so. I am glad I made the decision to do this for many reasons. Some I will keep somewhat a secret until I get to them for...fun? Whatever you wanna' call it. Here is one huge reason I am glad I pulled everything out...it really speaks for itself. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps23be9101.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psd48ecc0f.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps0ba90981.jpg Yeah... I really haven't determined what did this. I kind of suspect the pressure plate may have been the wrong one. This is only because is seems to have almost a machined finish to it around the outer edge. Or possibly someone put the wrong pressure plate in, realized it after and just ground down the outer edge rather than replace it. Either way, there's two holes in the case and a .3-.600" grove all the way around the inside. This is probably something some time with a tig could fix but time will tell. I have a transmission out of a 90,xxxx mile Spyder GS-T I'll put in just for time and money sake. Hopefully next week I can get some picture of the block and everything since I have it all torn down. Thanks for reading and make sure to check back! |
Re: '99 GS-T
I think you may have found your shifting issue.
|
Re: '99 GS-T
Oh I found one hell of an issue! lol This car is going to be a completely different vehicle when it's done. I probably won't even want to sell it! Oh well.

I'll just leave that here. Not much progress has been made yet. Still trying to get parts together and the like. Yep.. |
Re: '99 GS-T
Just thought I'd run through a few pictures of what we originally intended to tear this thing apart for.
http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...pshgvbvztt.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psv73s8dhl.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...pslfdkayix.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...pssr8rupqb.jpg Anyone see it? Bet not! It was pretty well...well, it was hidden. We didn't even really know about it. This was purely a summer duty car so it sat in storage a lot. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5gmnjm0j.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psywlfhafm.jpg Not so bad, eh? Really its not. Oh, the other side you ask? http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psf9dsanxs.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...pscikf5afz.jpg Pretty ugly though, huh? Wait until you see this! http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psvz7a18mi.jpg |
Re: '99 GS-T
Yeah we'll just let the rust of these pictures speak for themselves.. And no, I meant rust of these pictures..just, you'll see.

Thank you sir. It hasn't been easy with so much stuff going on but it'll get finished some day. Hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff done on my weekends.
