Ditto, plus miles on it? And what are the known issues with it?

Re: Subaru for sale

LOL this is a joke thread. its not actually for sale..well not today it is but u never know but its an 02 with 141,000 miles, known issues

leaking coolant (not sure where my mechanic did a pressure test and tightened hoses and said it was fixed but its not so who knows)
belt needs replacing
evap sensor broken
turbo almost blown
no ac
high miles
rotors might be wrapped, also hear clicking noise from brakes.
prolly more..
good parts it has a new thermostat so it doesn't over heat anymore, looks sexy, and is decently fast...and loud!

jhaan_dude 09-09-2009 06:31 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

well i have a rebuilt center for your turbo, just do a voltage bipass on the evap, i got a ac charge and seal kit, and get the damn rotors turned and new brakes put on! i would take $150 and one week to to do it! let me know if you want it done or not...

there is a hole in one of my ac lines so it needs a new line and pretty sure even with that it wont work lots of dust and dirt got in there from rallyxing so my guess is it would need to be complety replaced...and the brakes are a year old been turned about 4 months ago and they seem warped already...and the leak is going to be a pain in the ass to fix cause the intake mani has to come off...and the turbo might as well be upgraged to a vf39 at this point. if your serious pm me a offer i can not refuse LOL I might be interested...but then I might kick myself for selling it.

Re: Subaru for sale

I'm betting its pad transfer on the rotors causing the shaking and not actually a warped rotor unless you were REALLY heating those things up.

Re: Subaru for sale

Turning rotors doesn't always fix a warping issue. Once a rotor is warped, it's always warped. Turning them just shaves down the "high spots" which really only turns them into thin spots making it easier to warp again. The only real fix for warped rotors is to replace them.

hey Kracka, whats the best way to deal with uneven pad transfer? Would getting the rotors machined help this, if caught early enough? I think I may be having this problem as well.

I've tried explaining this to people before, no one ever listens.

Yup, it's the truth. Thats what I've been learning is suspension and brakes for the first semester at school.

For how much abuse that car has seen in 140k miles, be happy that's all that's wrong. A/C is a waste anyway, makes an automatic car even more boring to drive. :P

Yea 140k, you should expect maintenance items like that to come up. All of them seem pretty minor, you just have to get your hands dirty and figure out what you are doing. So you dont always have to have a friend work on it for you. :)

Getting the rotors turned works but removing metal when you don't need to isn't a good idea. I recommend 120-grit sandpaper, or sometimes just bedding in new pads removes it.

Re: Subaru for sale

If the rotors are good quality, and they are still within spec to be turned, they should last a year before they may start warping again. I turned the rotors on the M a few times in the 3 years I owned them, mainly because they were slotted/drilled, and they looked too good for me to want to replace them. haha

that's not entirely true most newer cars have wot cutout switch. so it shuts of the ac while your wot. so when you get on it to merge on the freeway or whatever the reason may be you have full power when you need it

AC is def not a waste, unless you like sitting in a sweaty seat.

Haha I used to, when I had my dsm... which it worked but overheated the engine if I turned it on haha.

One day you will realize AC, heated seats, and other creature comforts are to die for. :)

And Rofl at sweaty vags. haha Man that sucks! What went out on the WRX and GLI?

Kracka 09-10-2009 12:37 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

WRX = condenser
GLI = compressor

I dont trust my hands to take off and put back on my intake manifold..if it were more simple than that I would have fixed it months ago.

Just get cooled seats, then you don't need AC as much.

That entirely depends on how you drive, and how badly they are warped. Even if they are in spec for thickness, one hard stop at highway speed could warp them the day after you get them turned.

A//// Guy 09-10-2009 04:04 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

Pretty sure I beat the M well daily. haha It all depends on the quality of the rotor. A napa special will warp faster than Brembo replacements.

Kracka 09-10-2009 04:14 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

Yup, there are huge differences in rotor quality. Not only do better quality rotors last longer, they also stop quicker too. The worst rotors I've found have been Autozone's. Napa's are supposed to be decent and I had good luck with Checker's. For a performance application though at least get Centric blanks (sold under a lot of different names such as RotorPro, Stoptech, Powerslot, etc.) or better.

dumb_ricer 09-10-2009 06:20 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

A *LOT* of C5 Corvette guys run Raybestos rotors on their cars for track duty and daily use. Raybestos tends to have thicker rotors that prevent warping. The "downside" is that they hold more heat, but if you run good pads, holding heat is a good thing.

It is the brand Checker Auto Parts carrys/carried.

ylimert01 09-10-2009 06:33 PM

Re: Subaru for sale

LOL at the tag!! yea I have brembo blanks in there..I am thinking it must be unevean wear from the pads..but I shall replace them before the snow flies...
