Cool, what all did you get taken care of? I see the timing stuff on, so I guess you're all finished up with the rebuild process? Did you end up doing a stock rebuild, or throw in some fun stuff? :)

well it was just a bare block so we got all of that done in about 7 hours. So yeah finished with the rebuilding process.. I guess you could say i threw in stuff. I had all my mods on last time on the old rebuild then 7 miles down the road it locked up on me so thats why i had to do this rebuild again

I don't know the name of the engine shop that did it the first time but it locked up because they didn't use threadlock on anything when they assembled and the oil pickup tube came unbolted and no oil got to anything for 7 miles.

Take a gander

Ouch! Dont you have an oil pressure gauge? If I dont see oil pressure instantly at start up, I shut it down ASAP!

Re: Update On Talon!

Did the machine shop end up paying for the damages? Normally they warrantee their work.

The stock one is worthless... You could have 5psi of oil pressure yet it still reads on the gauge and looks normal. I'd suggest getting an aftermarket one due to the fact that you already lost 1 motor to it.

Damn man, why didn't you pursue that this further? If need be, unless I am totally missing something, you could have easily won in court. Did you at least report this to the BBB?

Re: Update On Talon!

grrrr.. already got bad news.. i'm not there so i don't know whats wrong but my buddy said to call my brother who is currently working on it because something is wrong and he has bad news GRRRhttp://dsmstyle.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif. I'll update ya when i can get ahold of him.. he is currently ignoring my calls

EDIT: haha.. sorry i finally got ahold of him and he was pulling my leg.. he started off by saying that they were driving it and when they got back they found the oil pickup tube on the table.. after i went crazy he told me he was just kidding so it is running as of now.. he is going to break it in for me since i don't trust myself enough not to boost it.

Re: Update On Talon!

Boost is the only way to break it in foo!!!

eclipseGSX108 03-08-2006 05:39 PM

Re: Update On Talon!

lol.. yeah 30 psi

Halon 03-08-2006 05:44 PM

Re: Update On Talon!

I'm serious, but I dunno about 30psi...

TurboDomestics 03-08-2006 06:01 PM

Re: Update On Talon!

Yeah, arent you supposed to boost it when breaking it in?

eclipseGSX108 03-08-2006 06:14 PM

Re: Update On Talon!

i have no idea... but i'd rather just take it easy on the first 500 miles. then after that i'll boost it a little for another 500. then once 1000 hits i'll change the oil and then have away with it

Halon 03-08-2006 06:19 PM

Re: Update On Talon!

I've always read the best way to break it in, is to break it in with some good solid pulls to get the rings sealed up right. The first few miles are the most important because the crosshatch pattern in the cylinders wears off quick, and that's what acts sort of as a "file" and files the rings so they seal nice and snug. And the reason you need to run it hard is so that there is more pressure in the cylinder, pushing the rings outwards toward the cylinder walls so they can be "filed" better.

I'm no expert builder, but this is what I've noticed is the general consensus as of late when it comes to breaking in freshly built engines. I'm sure someone else has more experience with me. But I know when I get my motor, it's gunna be broken in using that idea!

Yeah, that what Ive heard too.

Also, I heard that you should change the oil before 1000 miles, more like 500 miles or so. But then again, these are just what ive heard or read about in various places, and I have never actually done this myself. Maybe one of the LSE guys will chime in. ;)

Yeah thats what i meant on the oil.. sorry lol.. at the 500 tick i was going to change the oil then when 1000 hits change the oil.. then every 3000 after that... also this is what my brother told me he was going to do in the break in..

Now remeber alex your car has a 20g, 650cc injectors, hks 264/272 cams it really has to be tunes to really stomp on it or it will dump fuel and soak your cylinder walls and cause the rings not to seat good. Once I get 500miles on it, I change the oil and filter. Drive some more until about 1000miles total on the motor and change the oil one more time (after that 3000miles everytime) Keep in mind I do open it up but not straight dog the shit out of it just some 3rd gear pulls up to 80 or so.

That is what Ross(My brother) was telling me on another forum.. i was just wanting other people's oppinions on it..

As you can probably tell.. i'm not much of the mechanic, but my brother helps me out ALOT

Give it boost! No reason not to.

Re: Update On Talon!

yeah but i'm afraid that something wrong is going to happen if i boost it to much.. its not tuned.. I don't have a palm, nor boost gauge. We havn't checked it for any boost leaks either.

lol, that would suck. What grade thread lock is used for the pick up tube? or for that matter engine assembly.
