Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
I ordered transfer case input and output seals today. I'm also going to do the vfaq slip yoke leak fix.

Drove down the street today for its first wash since I got it. Took some pictures afterwards, still waiting to get tuned.

Just found this picture, it was a couple weeks ago when I put in a new LF output shaft seal and new transfer case seals.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Love it! Just drive it and have fun. A little tuning to make sure everything is healthy and some miles is all this thing needs!
Where are you located again? I'd love a ride sometime if it ever works out! |

Nice job! It's cool to see that some people can still put shells back on the road. :thumbsandtoesup:

Today I installed a rear strut tower brace, cleaned the bottom side of the hood. Took some pictures. I've been driving this to work the past couple days. I've put about 500 miles on it since assembly.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
That makes me miss it a small amount now. I'd still like to get to see it, you should pm me your # again, I lost it when my phone went kaput a few weeks ago.
I always wanted to paint those wheels bronze since they were my backup wheels just to see how it would look. |

Today I aligned the talon, it was way off, I'll post a picture of the printout soon. Drives way better now. Also, found 1 of the u-joints on the driveshaft has some play. Im going to swap it with my other driveshaft sitting in the garage, it has good u-joints. I also noticed a lot of backlash in the rear diff, and a howling noise around 50mph. Im going to swap driveshafts to see if it improves otherwise I'll be looking for a replacement rear LSD. |
Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Should get some driveshaft bushings as well, you'd be surprised at how solid it makes everything feel.

Alignment print-off, handles great now, all the eccentric bolts turned like butter.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
So I just changed the rear diff oil. The magnetic drain plug had a quite a bit of metal shavings, but definitely not the worst I've seen. The fluid was pretty thin, very dark and didn't smell like gear oil at all. With the fresh 75w90 and some limited slip supplement, I'm hoping my "howling" noise improves or goes away completely. I'm going to keep daily driving it, so far about 700 miles on it since the initial assembly of the car. I'm also hoping to get the cash together so I can bring it down to DB for a tune.

Yep, get the solid ones for evos, they fit dsms too and are a good upgrade.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Not the carrier bearings but the actual mounts that connect the chassis to the strap thats on the carrier bearings. Nice improvement when done with rear diff mount bushings as well.
Eff this car is looking good! |

I installed a deck I had laying around, I also chopped the stock antenna off and installed this powered amplified antenna on the interior. I got it at Orielly's for $18. It looks way better without the long stock antenna, and works great too.

So today I hit the 1000 mile mark since initial assembly of the Talon, I changed the oil and installed new Bosch Evolution wiper blades. I even got a new one for the rear. Looks like I need a car wash again. I'm also throwing in another pic of the new antenna.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
NICE!
|
Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Yeah they are nice blades, some places charge over $25 per blade. I got them for about $8 each.

Installed the speed density setup, I still need to hide the wiring, and mount the MAP securely to the firewall. Pushit2.0 did a great job welding on the IAT bung for me. With SD the car runs better than it did with the 2g mas. Having another member do some street tuning for me next week.
Also going to be installing my electronic boost control solenoid soon, been pretty lazy though. |

With the SD setup, I wanted to get rid of the 2g MAS without running filterless. This is what I came up with in a hurry, it will do until I find/make a nicer pre-turbo intake/filter. Looks kindy goofy with that filter idk. I also wanted to keep my BOV recirculated.

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Swapped the OE looking tan ISC for a good black ISC today.

Today I installed a Ingersoll Rand boost solenoid from Ecmtuning. The boost control function on Ecmlink is badass! Im still tweaking the base duty cycles, once I get that dialed in well I can enable the error correction feature. Just gotta wait for traffic/rush hour to end so I can make some 3rd/4th gear pulls. Being able to fine tune boost levels throughout the RPM range and in different gears is awesome. And for $45, thats cheaper than any good name brand MBC!

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
Sweet! That is really cheap. Boost by gear sounds like it could be nice too, more for fwd or higher powered cars, but nice to have regardless

Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
My starter solenoid has been causing an intermittent no start, so I swapped it with a spare starter I had. Also, I've had to add coolant a time or two in the past few weeks, pressure test revealed a small leak on the heater hose, just had to tighten the clamp. Almost 3k miles since assembly, its been a great daily driver except the starter recently acting up.
Since I can get Blizzaks for 50% off store cost and I can mount and balance for free, I'm going to be getting a set soon and hoping for snow. Im going with the LM-60s they have a H speed rating. The WS70 is a T. |
Re: 1g 6 bolt 4g63 tsi build
That is badass. Nice work.
