I think what a lot of people's points are that he should not be considered a victim of the fire departments decision, but more of a victim of his own irresponibility and poor decision making skills. Whether it's because he just wanted someone else to pay for it, or he's just that cheap. He made the concious decision to not pay and now he paid the consequences. Do I feel bad that he had to go through this tragedy, yes. Do I feel sorry for him because they (the fire dept) didn't help him, no.

If they put out the fire for someone who didn't pay the rural service fee what incentive would anyone else have to pay the $75 fee next year then? All it takes is one time and the masses will follow suit and expect to be covered for free.

Why should we care? He made a choice and now has to face the consequence. Not to mention the he assaulted the fire chief. This guy deserves our sympathy why?
