It's back together, drives straight, rides nice (as good as K-Sports can get). Sears pulled the frame straight, Jeff aligned it, but I still need to replace the lower control arm as it maybe bent a little. No worry as I was planning on replacing the control arm bushing rubber w/ poly. I took off the Evo MR rims and swapped in the daily driver 18s / all seasons. No need to be burning up the Evo Yoko rubber on casual street driving.
Now I can start modding it. Won't be driving it during the winter months so I'll be able to work on it in the storage garage. So far planning on doing: - Canadian seat belt conversion (hate the chokers + weight reduc.) - Headliner started to come down quite a bit, so I'll pull the headliner out and redo it w/ black alcantara in an attempt to remove some of the porno-red from the interior. - Retrofit the 2g crash beams in the front and the back. (quite a bit of weight reduc.) - Replace the battery with gel type and relocate it to the trunk. - Modify the washer reservoir in the trunk to work as the washer for the front wipers (like how the 2gs have it), and remove the front reservoir completely. - Modify the mid 90s caddy plastic undertray that I got, to fit the front bumper. There is a few more things, like actual performance mods but those I'm planning in spring time, e85, eIII 16g... |

Just finished a few appearance mods, before it goes in storage / down for power upgrades.
I never cared for the amount of amber on rear of the talons, so I had the center section painted body color, and did red translucent paint over the tails. Next, last time I was junkyard'n I grabbed a set of side marker lights from a 03 Outlander as they are the same part as the Dsms. Cut off the red reflectors and epoxied on some clear lens made by Wesbar. I still want to try to get the tint done before it gets garaged for the rest of the winter, can anyone recommend good places since the Plymouth SS is gone? |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
Tien and the guys from SS have a mobile tint install now. Tint Pros is the name. 612 229 5691 is the number listed for them.
Car looks great. Love a white 1g. |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
I highly recommend Tint Pros. They did my tint and it turned out great, good guys to work with.

Little Update:
Just got done changing most of the interior color from the bloody vag red to black. -removed all of the carpet (floor, door, side tunnel, & floor mats) and power washed the s**t outta it. Then bought about 12 bottles of liquid black RIT dye, used a 50 gallon storage tote from Walmart, and alot of almost boiling water. Soaked the main carpet for about 14 hours, the other smaller pieces about 4 hours. Let dry for about 4 days. Then re-installed. - bought 3 yards x 60" of foam backed synthetic suede from yourautotrim.com + 4 cans of Heavy duty headliner spray by Permatex. And redid the headliner, door inserts, and rear hatch cover. Still debating on maybe covering more parts inside with this stuff as it looks, and feels nice. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/...ea9fd772_z.jpg P8060234 by talon_jaei, on Flickr http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/...2840873a_z.jpg P8060237 by talon_jaei, on Flickr http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6130/...556034a2_z.jpg P8060235 by talon_jaei, on Flickr http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6141/...784f547d_z.jpg P8060236 by talon_jaei, on Flickr |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
I like it! I'm a fan of porno red dsm's lol.
|
Re: Proj. Talon MR
Haha nice! You can almost see a hint of the red still through the black, I think it looks great! Now how about the seats?
|
Re: Proj. Talon MR
Looks much better than the "bloody vag" red. LOL
I have 2 good condition 1g door panels with the stock black/grey pockets on the bottom if you wanted different ones. |

The flash does bring out a very small amount of the red in the carpet. Normal lighting conditions is undetectable. Still trying to figure out a game plan with the seating.
I was thinking of maybe keeping the red on the outer part of the seats, and just have the insert section (the seating area) redone w/ black Alcantara or other durable synthetic suede. But I would like to do the headrest elimination like in my 2nd attached photo, as it cleans up the seat and makes it more like a race seat. Mike, I may be interested in those bottom door carpets, I'm still on the fence of getting rid of all the red or keeping a few outlines. |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
Nice work, one of the nicest around these days.
|
Re: Proj. Talon MR
I like those seats better without the headrests. They don't look nearly as....80's-ish. LOL

Little side project I've had working on... Since I have a ix MR (aluminum roof) I can not mount a bike rack on it. I recently picked up a Yakama rack from WiDSM.org for a pretty killer price, & in good shape.
I've modified it a little to be able to transport my boy's modified Lightning Mcqueen power wheels around (I may start a project tread just for that, lol). Now I can take him anywhere now with his car pretty easily. Only takes about 5 minutes to mount and strap it down, this thing is mounted SOLID. |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
That shit is pimp! Is there any way you can crank them things up? My son has a little JD Gator. Thing scoots for a 1.5 yr old, but in a year or two he may want more :p

Easiest way is to bump up to 18v if it is a 12v model. Mcqueen was a 12v stock, he is now up to 18v & it moves pretty good now with no reliability issues at all. My son learned how to drive before he learned how to ride a bike LOL.
The next round of upgrades is currently shipping via UPS, & will be putting them in this weekend. The best place I've found is http://forum.modifiedpowerwheels.com/ |
Re: Proj. Talon MR
still have this?

Re: Proj. Talon MR

Yeah, no real changes lately other than new rubber and a few interior changes - covered the ribbed sections between dash and center console w/ the faux alcantara. Thinking of adding a ef1 when the 14b starts to go. Mostly saving money for evo mods.
|
Re: Proj. Talon MR
I don't know why I didn't check this out earlier. I've got pretty much the same plan for mine, updating via Evo type parts. I'll have to check out the online interior place, I'm planning on doing the interiors in both my Lotus and DSM with that synthetic suede. Keep the updates coming.

http://www.yourautotrim.com/suheobl.html is where I picked up the headliner material. Nice quality stuff not expensive at all, had enough leftover to do my boy's lightning mcqueen interior LOL.
