Re: 2.4l???
Steve is right, the Mighty Max is a wide block and will not bolt to your tranny.

Re: 2.4l???
Ok this is going to sound really noobish, but I was wondering if the 6 bolt fits on the 2g Trannys.
What is better the 6 bolt or 7 bolt 2.4. And yes, I read the other threads. |
Re: 2.4l???
6 bolts have been breaking cranks at massive HP levels, but 7 bolts tend to crank walk more. If you are going to be under 500 whp then go with a 6 bolt.
6 bolt will fit on a 2g tranny without much problem if it is the narrow block. |

Re: 2.4l???
What would you recommend for over 500whp. A full race build.

Re: 2.4l???
You have a narrow block. You just need to find a matching size block. What HP are you looking for? Personally I would go with a 6 bolt no matter what, but a 7 bolt with a twin disk may work well too.

I know the motor won't bolt up to our tranies, that's not what i'm worried about. But that the crank will fit right in. I may be able to get my hands on a 2.4l engine in the near future, and the nice thing is... the guys parting it out and selling a 2.4 from the sonatas. A crank i know would work. But for the life of me, i'm not sure why he wants to take the 2.4 out of his diamante//galant and drop in a 2.4t SRT-4 motor.... Forgive any uber-newbish things said. i'm under the influance of alcohol and a temp of 101. Woot! |
Re: 2.4l???
okay so ive found someone who could get me a 4G64 block. and ive researched a lot about them. things i found out are that there are 2 types of blocks for the 6 bolt. narrow and wide. also if you were to do the swap, you'll need to change the pistons cause of the c/a. for the head, you can bolt on a 2g or 1g head but you'll need the galant headgasket or whatever the block is off of. also you cant use the 4G63 cam gears. its gotta be galant cam gears or whatever the block is off of. the timing wont be right if you have the 4G63 camgears. well this is what ive learned so far, not sure if they are all correct. correct me if im wrong.

Re: 2.4l???
I would say if you are going to build a motor, 2.4 block, 6bolt 2.4 crank(eagle sells a crank if you want over 500hp), eagle rods, wiseco pistons, ARP hardware threw-out, then have a well know shop build you a motor and put it in. Or go with a 2.0 but no one does that anymore.

Re: 2.4l???
So i missed the answer to my question, or it wasn't answered. Will a crank from ANY 2.4l 4g64 motor work? And after looking, the Mighty Max's in the junk yard here have 4g64 motors, and the SQ in the junkyard has a 5g64 motor? Can't remember, been too long since i looked at that car, but it is different.
Know a buddy on a different form has a 82 JDM conquest with a SOHC 4g63, or so he claims. But i think it's going to be a different motor. |
Re: 2.4l???
Well you don't need a 2.4L to make tonz of power, isn't shep on the 2.0L?

Re: 2.4l???
Any really top 100 DSM people running the 2.4 or the 2.3? Ran by a list on one of the sites, wondering if they used a 2.0 or not.
