well number 1 cylinder, all the timing marks should line up. Otherwise screw the hose into the hole, and put your finger over it, when you feel air pushing against your thumb, your on the compression stroke. Or put a rod down the hole, etc..
You don't have to be AT TDC just on the comp stroke, if the piston is more than 1/2 way down (or up rather) it could blow back down with air pressure, just find a way to make the motor stop moving (aka rachet/breaker bar on crank pully).

Or you could put the car in gear with the e-brake on!

The dsm is in its natural habitat, on jack stands with wheels off ground.

Nope, up here all of our cars hybernate in the summer on jackstands. Then in the winter, they hybernate on ...
....jackstands.

So what your telling me is i need to invest in a good set of jack stand because my car is going to stay there 90 percent of the time :P

So how do i determine that Cyl1 is on compression stroke, ?
same should apply to #4 at the same time correct? or are they not at the same stage?

-E
When #1 is on the compression stroke, #4 is on the exaust stroke.

Did you compression test? Is that why you're doing a leakdown?

If everything on the timing side is completely lined up, (including the crank) I couldnt see how I'd be difficult.
