View Full Version : coolant problems... wiring...
Ok, I am still having cooling issues with James' gst. I checked error codes in dsmlink and found 0115 and 0443 I believe which are EGR and cooling system circuit malfunction. I checked the wires at the thermostat housing and it looked like two were grounding eachother out. I taped them up and looked at it again. The CEL was still on. I checked for errors and there were none. I looked at the dash settings to see at what temp the coolant will pop a cel. It was set at 234*. I logged the coolant temp and dsmlink logs the car at a constant 316*. Nothing changes it. I went back into the settings and tried to change the CEL to 317* to see if it gets rid of the problem but it wouldn't let me adjust past 250*. Any ideas? Anyone else have cooling problems after a 6 bolt swap? What sensors did everyone use? I need to get this thing going and hopefully hit the dyno sunday.
Oh and by hitting the gas, you can see the coolant gauge rising. The car has a new HG so that is not the problem anymore. There are not any coolant leaks. Belt is tight.
Anyone know which sensor goes to the ecu and which one goes to the gauge?

I can head out there by Wed, if you can wait that long I'll handle it for you.I need to bring you guys that ECU and check out those other issues anyway.
That would be great if you could.
Today I repaced the sensor (--> ecu) in the thermostat housing and soldered on a new connector going to the ecu. The ecu sees reasonable values now. The gauge still runs to hot quickly though. Average temp according to dsmlink is ~217* or so. That is about normal for a 2g with a FMIC right? He has a 6 bolt if it matters. What should we believe as far as temp goes, the gauge or dsmlink?
Tried tuning the car and the bastard is missing. Have to do another boost leak test. While missing at 26psi, the car only gets 1.1 or so count of knock. Any ideas? Boost leak???

What is too hot to run it at? The factory guage goes up very quickly while on the gas. It goes straight up to about the red and stops. DSMLINK says it is around 215 degrees but the guage is at the max. If I shut it off when it gets to the red and start it up 20 seconds later, it is right in the middle again. Do you think the guage just has some issues or it is still overheating? I thought shane said 215 isn't high for a 2g but is for a 1g. What does that mean? 6 bolt vs 7 bolt or just in general. Would it matter if the 2g has a 6 bolt?

In this shit hot and humid weather we're having right now. Dsmlink has been telling me 210-216 at 70mph cruzing speed. It will bounce to 223 for a few moments and then back down to 216. The car temp gauge is just above the 1/2 way mark. Before we had this shit hot weather, i would be 206-210 at 70mph. This is 2g that i'm referencing by the way.

Seems like your coolant temp gauge is off or something is making it go up with throttle position or something.
I would believe dsmlink if its says 80 when cold and slowly warms up to 200...
Ive been having temp issues as well as soon as these 85+ temps can in. I had a stock 190 thermostat and I swapped it with a 180 and it really didnt make any difference once it was fully open. It just opens sooner. My problem are the cooling fans. I have 2 9" fans and they cant keep up with the engines heat when I am driving on the side roads.
On the freeway I was fine- 199-206 avg. w/out AC. AC on and it just keeps climbing. I just fixed my damn AC too. On side streets hottest Ive hit was 220.
So I took the thermostat out and freeway stays about 200 and side roads havent gone about 215. Still too hot for my liking, so Im going to try and put the normal stock fan back in, which should help but I doubt will let me use the AC.
Stupid modded cars Im done.
I would say figure out why your temp gauge is reading off.

So do you think the car is fine then?
