View Full Version : ran at rock falls times are a bit slow?
It looks like you need some tuning. You are down on power the whole way down the track.

There has to be a misprint unless you let off or hit the breaks on the first run. It took you 3 seconds to gain 3mph in the end but on the 2nd run it only took you 3 seconds to gain almost 20mph? I bet there is a misprint and its suppose to be 89.65mph or something, cause compairing it to the 2nd run, things just dont seem right.

i think i missed 4th gear on the 80 MPH run most likely

i shifted quick enough i think? and i missed 4th on that 80 MPH one. I also shifted at like over 7000 in 1-2 and near 7000 2-3 and at like 6500 3-4 does that work for shifting?
Yes he did miss fourth.

But all i have are some bolt ons? why would i need tuning? I know it might help but not a whole second. I think my plugs are old and now i have a huge ass boost leak.

Bolt-ons can make a huge difference in the tune also. The car is tuned from the factory to run with a stock exhaust at stock boost levels. The more airflow the ECU sees, the more it overcompensates with the fueling. Some people can run fast without any tuning device because the MAF screws up and overruns and doesn't actually get a correct reading of the airflow and the car doesn't go insanely rich, or they don't have enough fuel pump or injector, which can help lean it out. Or if the MAF messes up too much, you go too lean and knock. What did the datalogger say for knock? Have you checked for boost leaks? They are main cause of mysteriously low power.

my data logger displayed like no knock, sometimes i would get a 1 or something. My timing was at about 20-21 at 6000+ RPM. I think its boost leak since i have a huge one now, it wont let me boost past 10 without become way rich and stuttering. I might just go ahead and get some new piping, and maybe some new wires? they are old anyway.
Ill post if/when i find that leak.
thanks for the help

Well, I assume you would have noticed the car not boosting past 10 and concluded that was the problem at the track. IMO, wires are wires. As long as they deliver spark, they are good enough. I would do a boost leak test to fix the new leak but I do not think that was your problem at the track if you could boost to 20 psi. Usually with a boost leak you will knock. If I were getting 1 count of knock, I would have upped the boost more. 1=0. Might want to check the plug gap or replace the plugs as maintenece.
If you have a problem with plugs/wires you are going to hear it. The car is going to be missing badly. The problem probably was a boost leak of something. Maybe you just have it tuned way too rich or something?

My question is...why is everyone assuming he 'tuned it'? Where are his mods that will physically allow him to tune it?
My guess would be boost leak. Start there, then move on to the air/fuel mixture.
The car seems healthy from what he posted from the datalog's (for info) just a little flat, which would lead me to assume its not getting full power due to heatsoak/boost leak, not a overly rich/lean condition. Plugs could also be an issue, like mentioned, but as Jet said, you would hear that and feel it.
