Did Anyone Watch Channel 5 At Like 9pm Last Night?

last night channel 5 did a report on Street Racing in I think Missiouri.

it was about 2, 16year old girls who were out street racing in there 97-99 style GSX with 2 other cars.

The girl driving only had her license for 1 month. Had her best friend in the passenger seat, and then 2 guys they new were fallowing in 2 separete cars.

Anyrated the 2 girls who were winning spead up a head of the 2 guys (both driving hondas) took a corner to fast and crashed ended up dieing.

The accident was demened an accident but after 1 year the attorney general pressed charges against the 2 boys.

When the verdict came back:
1 boy who descided to plead guilty was sentanced to 6months in jail and 3 years probation.

The other boy who refused to take the blame for the girls actions was sentanced to 6 years in jail.


Anyrated My point to all this, is that these 2 boys got jail and were held responsible for there part in the death of these 2 girls.

Well last night just after that aired a breaking news story came in of a police chase that happened I think in Cottage Grove last night, which ended up with the car that was being chased slamming head on into a mini van, Which Resulted in Critical Injury to the mini van driver.

And since this sounded exaclty like the story they had just aired I want to know if they Officer is going to go to jail like the 2 kids did for his participation. Or is he going to get away with it because he's a police officer?

I think if we can get sent to jail for 6 years, why should the police officer be held responsible for his participation in this?

I guess I got pissed last night cause of the almost exact simularities of the 2 stories, which resulted in 6 year sentance for that 1 kid.

Yah, I can see the similarities between the two stories. Most likely nothing wil happen to the cops.

You know, this is actually a HUGE debate, and one that could change the world of policing as we know it. There are some departments, Minneapolis included, that will terminate a pursuit if the person driving the car isn't wanted for a felony. And they will even terminate that if speeds exceed 110 MPH. A lot of chases these days are terminated, more than you would know. On average, just between Ramsey County, and Eastern Hennepin County, on a good day, there's probably at least 1 chase, and it will usually end up in the officer giving up due to lack of back up.

I don't agree with those kids going to jail. Living with the death of a friend, when you know you were doing the same thing, is a horrible scenario. Especially at a young age. I HIGHLY doubt that if in MN, those kids would have faired the same, as I see MN a little more conservative than MO.


New devices are in testing modes, such as the EMP crawler. The lead pursuit car would have a device under his car, that would shoot out a device under the car bieng chased, and the device would emit enough EMP to shut down the car bieng chased.



So I don't think cops should be totally held responsible like these kids in MOST cases, as to be certified, you have to complete driving courses, and you're a little more educated than a High School kid (sometimes), but those kids should NOT have been handed down that punishment.


But I don't know any department that would continue a dangerous chase through residential streets at 130+ mph...

***There was actually a chase that came from Anoka, that went through Ramsey County, and the criminal ended up going down Grand Avenue. They called off the chase after the guy hit 80 mph on Grand. Quite a few people actually ended up calling in an excessive speeder, and the guy ended up crashing quite violently into a tree near his house. No one was injured, and the chase was long enough to involve Anoka Co Sheriff, Ramsey Co Sheriff, New Brighton PD, Roseville PD, Saint Paul PD, State Patrol, and Mendotat Heights PD.***

You also can't set a president over high speed pursuits for cops just to stop pursuing right away... think about what that would do to the crime rate. I'm going to steal your car, drive it fast, and if I get chased, I'll just run about 50 mph over the speed limit, and I'll be home free.

Here's the thing that bugs me about the 2 kids going to jail. They were charged with the murder of the 2 girls and found guilty.

I completely understand taking responsibility for your actions, but how can you be charged for something someone else does?

These girls were known to frequent the local race scene and actually had a reputation for Racing at these events all the time.

I view it like this. Say the girl was going to commit suicide she had a gun to her head and pulled the trigger (ie: car being the gun in this case), the 2 guys being witnesses to this but had no way of stopping her (ie: how could they get into the car and actually stop the vehicle, or what not especially since she was way ahead of them when they crashed?) But since they didn't stop her from pulling the trigger they are now being charged/found guilty as if they'd pulled the trigger themselves.

Responsiblity is exactly what we are talking about her. The 2 girls knowing/willingly raced there car, and crashed. How can you put the responsibility on someone else? It's B.S. The girl driving is responsible for her own actions period. No-one had a gun to her head and say hey you have to drive this fast or else, etc, etc....

I'm tired of hearing/seeing the blame placed on the wrong people, etc. And this is just another case of it.

I have no problems with a cop doing his job I just thought it was horribly wrong that it's ok for a cop to be apart of something that kills someone with no conciquences, but if a citizen does it you get sentanced to 6 years in prison.

It's just we as citizens get hounded apon for the things that we cause but sometime I just get this feeling that cops/politicians, etc can just get away with what ever they want to. It's like the rules don't apply to them.

Another incident would be the cop that ran a red light in Apple Valley killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child. If it was anyone else we'd be facing jail time possibly for life.

The girls were not driving a GS. it was a Black 97-99 style GSX. vs and and integra that looked like Gil's old Yellow one but blue with altezza's, and Not sure what the other car was.
