View Full Version : Laser Problems
I have the car running but it does not want to idle. I recirculated the bov, installed a stock MAS and the car does not want to idle. I tried a boost leak test but it does not seem that the air is going in. It seems to be going out as quickly as it goes in. I replaced all the vaccum lines and the problem still exists. The ic piping was made and everything is tight. I was told that it could be something with the turbo. I pumped air into the wastegate actuator and the actuator opened. So, it is not stuck open. The other theory is that it could have a couple large cracks in the exhaust housing. Could the cracks leak enough to make the car not idle or hold any boost? I still have to hookup the logger and adjust the throtle cable correctly. The car starts but you have to keep it running with the gas pedal. Whild feathering the gas, the car kind of stumbles like it has boost leaks. Compression is good (160 across) except for cylinder 2 which only gets 70psi. I am pretty sure it is something in the head though. Shouldn't affect the problems I have now. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

70 psi on cyliner #2?!? Dude, you have a very DEAD cylinder on your hands.
Yeah but that has nothing to do with the current problems. I believe it has to do with one of the rockers off center. The head is off a 2g which poped a cel a couple of times for misfire in cylinder 2. The block has ~34k on it and the other cylinders are all 160. I am pretty sure the block is in great shape. I will have a leakdown test done when I get the car running fine.

It probably wont Idle due the the very strong miss in that 70psi cylinder.
The car doesn't backfire much or anything. Since I cannot pump air in for a boost leak test, that is my first guess as to the idle problem. The car should still run decent with one cylinder rich. BTW, there are not any CEL codes on.

I would try to get the 70psi hole fixed. And why cant you pressurize the system? You should be hearing it leak from somewhere. Ither the compressor cover, IC, or somewhere in the BOV/intake manifold area.

Yeah, I am not sure why I cannot hear anything. If seems as if it is leaving as quick as I put it in. I am pumping in air with my compressor at 100psi. The only thing I can think of is the wastegate flapper letting it out. The ic piping was made, I replaced all the vaccum lines, and the ic was off another I used it on. Worked fine then.
BTW, what nipple on a type-s are you supposed to connect to the intake manifold. I have tried both lines. I do not hear/feel a leak when it is on either.
I plan on having Mike do a leakdown test when I get it running good enough for the trip down there.

You should not try 100psi, you should only use 15psi starting, then up the line pressure, watching the boost gauge to make sure it does not go to high.
