91 GSX- stock fuel pump, 550s, stock FPR.

Sometimes after my car has sat for a while and is completely cold it will not start and the fuel pressure relay and something else near the intake manifold starts clicking rapidly while the key is in the accesory mode after trying to start it.

It acts like it doesnt have fuel. The car stumbles and misses and tries to keep going at around 300 RPM but then dies. I can run the fuel pump through my logger and it runs. I tried checking the fuel pressure relay with the logger but nothing really happens it just clicks a couple times.

After a while of trying to get the car started by raising the idle, stomping on the gas pedal and trying to keeep it going it will pick up and run just fine. This has happened to me about 3-4 times within the last 2 months. I dont know what it could be and I was thinking of getting suggestions before I replace any thing like the TPS or the FP Relay.

Well I just went out and tried to start it again and it stumbled and did not want to climb past 300RPM. So I followed the clicking and it took me to the fuel pressure selnoid mounted in the firewall. I hav all vacuum eliminations done except the ones to the FP solenoid for cold start reasons... it raises your RPM during startup. I unplugged that and went and tried to start it up.

It started right up and ran perfect. So what could be going wrong with it? With the logger I can test it and it clicks once and shuts off. But when you start it it goes nuts. Well it was an easy fix but I dont get how that could make the car run so shitty. Anyone know why that solenoid produce the results it did?

maybe its the loose screw between the stearing wheel and the seat?

Well the problem is back after it ran fine for a little bit idling.. I took it down the block and it started dying and bucking under load. made it back home though after a few attempts.

Im thinking its the ISC motor but Im not sure. The FP solenoid is eliminated and that lowered my idle a little, not sure why...

Any theories??

Kind of sounds like the problem my eclipse had when I bought it. It threw and ISC code, but I never replaced it because some days it started fine. Then one day, it just went away and hasn't done it for over a year. Strange...

does the FP relay click and click AND "something near the intake manifold" click at the same time, or are you assuming that only the FP relay is clicking?

the ISC can make a rapid clickign sound at various times when the ign. is on.

but the FP relay shouldnt and if it does

also the fp solenoid usually is only used for hot starts...it doesnt seem to be used for cold starts...
and it shouldnt make your idle any different...it just modifies fuel pressure

The intake manifold clicking is coming from the ISC, and the other clicking was coming from the fuel pump relay in the dash and also the fuel pressure solenoid on the firewall.

I checked my caps 2 years ago and they looked fine, I even bought the replacement ones and I think I lost them becuase nothing seemed to leak.

Does this sound like the ECU is going to crap? If I take out the ecu and there is nothing leaking or any corrosion what should I do?

Find Eric and have him do the caps, or get them from him and do them youself if you are up to it. Just cause you can't see any damage yet doesn't mean it's not in progress.
