So our PS3 died and my son wants a new Xbox. Is the PS4 better? Is there a suggested place to get it? Is there a source for games? :D

The biggest difference would be console exclusive games. For instance, halo 5, forza, or titanfall, etc, would only be available on xbox 1. Same way, Last of us, uncharted, etc are only for PS4. Basically, it all comes down to the choice of games and the feel of the controller/interface. In my opinion, PS4 is the one to go with.

I was an Xbox 360 that converted to PS3, and now have a PS4 - and it was a great choice. If your son is obsessed with Halo, go with an Xbox One. If not, I would go with a PS4. Like Fran said, there are some amazing PS only games out there.

For games, you can sign up for Gamefly to rent games. I've done it in the past, and for a flat monthly charge, you can have 1 or 2 games rented. You keep them for as long as you like, basically like Netflix was when it was only through the mail.

Another option that many people don't know about, is you can rent games from RedBox now for both PS4 and XB1.

Cost is the same everywhere. Both companies control what retailers can sell their systems for. But for a PS4, I would wait a couple of weeks. They have dropped the price in Europe and Australia, and a price drop is expected in the US very soon.

Steve,

Any major retailer can sell you a new gaming system - The XB1 and PS4 recently had price drops, and I believe both are available as bundles with 1 or two games - saving you some money. At the end of the day, they both play videogames, blu-rays, can surf the net, and provide a way to watch netflix/hulu etc. As said previously, the "game specific titles" are really only difference. Right now, Halo 5 is HUGE, Forza 6 is pretty awesome (XB1 Exclusives) and the remaining big games are available on both machines. Both now have a pay to play online fee, too...

I plan on getting my household a PS4 for Christmas. The only thing that intrigues me about the XB1 is Forza, otherwise, I think the PS4 is the better system and one to go with. The best deal right now is the bundle deals on Amazon that come with a game(s) for ~$350. It's already been leaked the XB1 will be sold for $300 on Black Friday so I'm holding off until then to see if the PS4 matches that deal.

Here are the current bundles on Amazon:

Thanks guys, this is helpful. I saw a bunch of people on CL trying to trade their XB1 for a PS4, so that made me think the PS4 might be better, and we could play a lot of the games we already have if we went that way. The only downside is that some of his friends have the XB1, so I'm guessing you can't play even the same game between the two systems online or connected?

I like the idea of Gamefly, I don't really want a bunch of $75 games laying around collecting dust.

I figured there would be some sweet deal on Black Friday, that's when I usually do my electronics shopping. :D $300 for either system with a game would be sweet.

Is the Kinect good for anything?

The big thing as stated is exclusive games, but beyond that the XB1 is more media center-y and can basically take over the job of your cable box's interface. Voice controls to handle basically all of that functionality are pretty neat too. The Kinect is what handles the voice commands and can also visually identify you to automatically log you in when you turn it on.

The PS4 is the more capable system though. Graphics will be better and it's more streamlined, but lacks the features of the XB1. It also doesn't have a gigantic power brick like the XB which is nice.

I own both, and I use both regularly.

No.

Spaz and I can agree to disagree. Voice commands and visually identifying you doesn't impress me at all.
