So..been doing some work on the GST now that I was able to get it into a garage. First thing was to find out why it wouldn't turn over by hand. Come to find out there was quite a bit of water in the motor. Not sure where it came from though. The radiator was empty when I got the car, but it has a hole in the bottom of it, so I dont thing that would be it. And the the oil looks good.

I cleaned all the water out and it turns over by hand great now. Still very much confused on how that much water got in it.

second thing was found out the ebay 16g turbo on it is junk. So as of right now gonna throw on my old 13g off my 1g. I know its not ideal, but Christmas has hit the pocket book finally. lol. so gotta use what I have. And also looking for a new intercooler setup for it. The core is bent and twisted, and leaks. Plus I need all new couplers for it.

Good news was I found the car does have a legit Greddy Type S bov on it. Kinda cool. lol. Now just to finish up the wiring and do a compression test. Hopefully that will be this week.

Well, did a compression test tonight. Results were not so good. Just under 75 psi in #4. So i took the head off to see whats up. first off, found out one water passage on the HG has been pushed into the #4 cylinder. Than while turning the motor over I found something odd. #4 does not sit flush with the block. It must have bend a rod. Crap.

Well that dont look right.

So seems as how I already had the head off and had the tools available, i decided to just yank the motor.

Wasn't to bad being by myself. Was kinda nice and quiet. Was able to just work.

So quick question for you guys.

I pulled apart my motor and found a bent rod on #4. I already knew this when I pulled the head.

However, when I dropped the block off at the machine shop today, me and the guy noticed that the rod must have slapped the very bottom of the bore. Its kinda hard to describe, but its right at the bottom of the cylinder. Small indention.

Now the cylinder is still smooth around it. No rough edges that would gouge into a piston skirt. But now I am worried that the block wont be useable.

What are my chances that seems as how its right at the bottom that it will never hurt the piston and rings?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It shouldn't be an issue. I would have him use the bore gauge right around there to make sure the metal didn't just push around the dent. The metal has to go somewhere. Being down that low it should be fine. Have a pic of it?

i will try to get a pic of today. Just not sure if I will be able to. I dont have my car right now so getting from work to there might be an issue.

So i was able to swing down and get some pics right before they closed. they aren't the best, but it was all i could get.

The guy doing the machine work on it says he dont think it will cause any issues. Its well below where the lowest ring goes. he's just gotta check the bore now.

Looking at it again, it goes up further than I thought. But hopefully it will be ok.

I remove more material than that when I clearance my 2.3 motors for use with Manley I-beam TT rods. Looks like you should get away with it.

I'm far from any kind of engine builder but those main bearings look beat up to me. What did the oil look like?
