So I did auto-x for the first time about 2 yrs ago and it is amazing, a completely different rush from drag racing and I love it.
I really want to try road racing too, but sadly I have a awd auto dsm (basically a drag car)
As soon as I can, I plan on getting a car so that I can do some turning as it is a blast to do.
So who here is going to be tearing it up on the auto-x events this year?
Any advice for getting into something to get seat time?
What are good cars?

I have a 2G shell on the side of my house, that I think Im going to bring it to my parents to store it and in a few years build it up into a Road race car. I have no plans of doing X or R/R this year but definetly want to try it!

You can drive any car on a road course. Take your auto DSM to brainerd, I guarantee it will be fun regardless. Just make sure you don't have complete crap tires and your alignment is up to snuff and such.
Autox it would probably suck though.
I'll be doing 3-4 road races this year, and hopfully 1 or 2 track days on top of that, and maybe a couple autocrosses as I can fit them in.

I have decent tires, I did want to try a couple of laps at the MAP event.

You should do it! I am planning on running the road course at MAP's event this year, would be fun to see another 1g out there.

any good running car will work for auto-x or road racing.
Auto-X is the best place to really get started. Its cheap and you dont need a high HP car to be fast.
Road racing gets expensive. Tires, brakes, and entry fees all add up and will cost about 10X that of an autoX. However signing up for HPDE/Lapping days will get you lots of seat time.
MAP's event at BIR would be a great place to start. We will have plenty of instructors ready to take you for a ride as well as ride with you.

I really want to make it to the MAP thing either with the chumpcar or my 1g dsm this year (needs a new gearbox first)

Andy, what does it cost to ride along? Or have someone ride with? Also is that in someone else's car? Or do you or instructors ride in our cars.
