The closest thing any of us have gotten to something like this is localized flooding and tornadoes. We'd be shell shocked if something this massive happened here.

Hey meow, some of us have ventured well outside MN and seen more than that...
100mph typhoon (hurricane) winds on a tiny japanese island, wearing a trash bag rain suit and chem goggles is a memory of mine that comes to mind :) We'd see something like 3 typhoons / year on that island. Thing is the cities are built for it, so damage was minimal.
