Looks like Bushur has one that they would sell for $400 and then an o2 housing for $300. Just looking to see if anybody knew of any better options.

Have a link? I guess I've never heard of such a thing since DSM and Evo turbos are backwards from each other?

That is true and you have a very solid point!

I've only seen people put spring in when the head is off the car. Are the springs something you can do while the head is still on the car? I would like to keep the head on as that is one less headgasket that I would have to buy.

I just keep thinking back my little dsm and how that thing would bounce off 8500 when it would just spin in first with stock everything, but it was a munchgsx motor. I want to be on the safer side with this car. haha

I definitely have my reading to do on evo stuff!

Thanks! Yours will kick my ass when it is done anyways though, then I'll be the one with the sad face!

I think it was JMF that also has one but it is a tubular one and is 1k+. I'm a budget and don't want a tubular one for daily driving anyways.

Ah I see. I'm no expert, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a Evo manifold that is cheaper than that if Buschur can sell that to you for $400.

EDIT:

Looks like a nice piece, although I wouldn't want an open o2 dump on my daily, but that's just me.

You can do the springs with the head on the car, you can either pump compressed air into they cylinder to keep the valves closed, use the rope method. Trust me, taking the head off is a longer process on the Evo than it is on a DSM, although it always takes longer the first time.

+1, jim did it and he may have borrowed a tool to do it from shane.

PS- sell the turbo and do a real bolt-on with a twin-scroll housing. That's what makes them so appealing imho, not just the fact that they bolt on but the spool characteristics blow single-scroll turbos out of the water. FP Red/Black will spool around 3900/4200 on that car and would probably be perfect for what you're after: a little bit more lag, a lot more power up top! :)

Hmmm, I guess I am used to driving the open down pipe dsm that I didn't think an open dump was loud at all. Now I might have a differen opinion even though I don't really get on it very often any more.

Rope method seems like its pretty easy and fail safe. I would have to take off one of the manifolds which doesn't seem like a big deal. Or would you have to take off both for the rope method to really work and make sure nothing got left behind?

I think I might know what you're talking about. I think we might have something like that in my garage my dad bought. I'll have to look into it!

Hmmmmmm. The other manifold/o2 housing seems like a cheaper option haha. Just kind of looking at my options at the moment. First thing is cams and timing belt. I'm already getting ahead of my self, new cars are exciting!

If you cannot track down the tool you need to remove the valve springs with the head on the car, you're welcome to borrow mine - it works awesome!
