i really dont like that saying "Guns dont kill people, People do" (Before anyone jumps all over me for being anti gun, which i am not, hear me out).
Guns do not walk around killing people, But are a tool, and like any other tool, you need the right tool for the job. Hand Guns help protect your family, Hunting Rifles are great at killing animals for food, So what job is a tool like an AK-47 used for? or how about a Machine Gun?

I think the majority of American Citizens can agree that the ownership of arms to protect your family or hunt is fine and dandy, but it seems the main disagreement between parties, and groups comes down to What kind of guns should be allowed, and which people should be allowed to own guns. My personal opinion is that hand guns of a certain caliber, and hunting rifles of certain criteria should be allowed to be owned, but a ban on other criteria should also be put in place. I believe that assault rifles, (even though i love looking at them and think they are really cool) have no place in normal society, (war zones excluded, as i think in war, the best tool for the job should be used, (which should be a laser gun with unlimited ammo, like out of most video games)).


Sure, the gun didnt act on its on, the man had to pull the trigger. But would he have been as effective had he been using a bolt action rifle? or a hand gun? or a bow and arrow? probably not.

Automatic weapons would be more for hobby or sport in this country. But of course there will always be the few who abuse then and/or use them criminally. And what you are saying is since they don't serve a practical "legal" purpose, and since some people have abused them, this means they should be banned for everyone?

An M1 is a frighteningly simple and old rifle. The guy only fired a couple shots at a time. Anyone with training can fire a bolt action with alarming speed. You have watched stuff on the Kennedy assassination, haven't you?

One of the things that really annoys us NRA-types is people like you that don't understand guns and spout nonsense like this. Automatic weapons are nearly impossible for a civilian to get. An AK-74 is a semi-auto and in most cases so-called assault weapons fire a cartridge that is less powerful than a typical hunting rifle.

In the real-world a 'sniper rifle' is a bolt-action that uses a powerful hunting cartridge. Making those type of rifles the preferred weapon would probably increase fatalities! Rounds from such a weapon cut through body armor like butter.

You're correct about the ammo, but all it takes is a pin mod to make most guns like the AR-15 and AK fully auto.

From the brief training I received on using an ASP they can be fatal or life altering if you miss a strike and hit a red zone (neck, head, spine, joints)

You're not suppose to hit anyone near the head or neck areas unless you're justified in using lethal force. Frankly I can kick harder than I can hit with an ASP baton. Those things are really light and don't pack much of a punch to be honest. Those big billy sticks or whatever they're called do work though but police departments don't carry them anymore. Being tasered isn't so bad, I would rather get tasered 10 times over than get sprayed with OC.

An "assault rifle" is a great tool for home defence. The only difference between a "hunting rifle" and an "assault rifle" is a pistol grip.

I don't know where you get your info from. It takes an auto bolt and sear + triger and more work for an AK. It take more than a firing pin on an AR platform as well. Most of these parts are hard to come by and not worth the hassle (prison)

You can make an AK fire "ghetto full auto" easily but it will eventually fire out of battery and you are more than likely only going to hurt/kill yourself (plus spend some time in Prison)

Tom your theory doesn't make much sense.

You're saying that only guns that are used for home defense and hunting should be allowed. So the hobbies who does target shooting or anything like that will get the shaft.

Thats like saying we should illegalize everything besides Toyota Hybrids and minivans. That way the fast sports cars (who tend to kill/injure more people) will no longer be obtainable for those with the hobby of cars themselves.
