Yes I bought the Evo 3 1st gear and input shaft, the full Evo 3 3rd/4th gear kit from jacks, And I am using a 92 intermediate shaft and center diff.
As for shims I fallowed the factory services procedure. I have it torn down now and from what I can see the gears are holding up great, I used the mitsu diaqueen oil. This tranny shifted like butter at 9500rpm.

Straight cut gears should reduce spreading of the shafts, right? So, this will be better because it's straight cut. I don't know anything about stock or evo 3 4th gears though, whether or not they are straight or helical cut.

All dsm and evo 3 forward gears are helical cut. Look at the pic again, its a helical cut gear.

If it does have a helical cut, it's pretty slight. You can have straight teeth at an angle, can't you? It would just increase strength.

When saying straight cut, typically this is what people are referring to (straight cut dog gears like this):

The generate much less (if hardly any at all) side load than a helical gear would generate.

I know, but it is possible, isn't it, to have straight teeth, at an angle, but without the helical (curved) pattern?

Helical Gear - A type of gear with slanted teeth.
Spur Gear (aka straight cut gear)- A type of gear that has straight, flat-topped teeth set parallel to the shaft
