Is this a custom billet gear, or the factory Evo 3 4th gear you can buy from Jacks? The Evo 3 4th gear has 29 teeth, 1 less then a stock dsm 4th, but its billet and has the double synchro from the factory, the 4 holes in the face of the gear is for the double synchro.

I dont fully understand just replacing the gear, the countershaft is still going to be weak.....

Its kinda funny that only on a DSM forum would someone post a picture of a gear, and people would be salivating over its all powerful glory. Like a work of art... not saying that im not salivating but its just funny you dont see this on other car forums.
When i show jessica this sort of thing, and say "Wow hun LOOK AT THAT, isnt it pretty" she doesnt get it.

The question is what breaks first, the input shaft 4th, the intermediate shaft 4th, of if they fail at the same time.
Any way you put it its a better part then the factory, it may last a little longer but you put enough torque or hp threw the tranny it will fail, the more power in the less time you have.
The straight cut gear sets available are just about the only option for anyone with a DSM trying to 1/4 mile race with 700+awhp.
I plan to run my tranny until it breaks, then see what I would have to replace vs a dog box.

You have a complete evo 3 gear trans now dont you? How tight did you shim it? Let us know how long it last at your power levels!
