I'm not an Evo expert by any means, but 15w-40 sound like way to thick to be runnin through a newer motor. Most new engines have much tighter tolerance's and much smaller oil passages than older engines did, thicker oil actualy will damage you engine more than help. Like I said I dont know enough about X's, to be much help here, but from what I have seen this is a huge mistake area for a lot of performance guys. Thinking thicker = better lubrication, doesnt always work out right

Yeah, who knows if that was the cause but oiling plays a HUGE part in this obviosuly. For the record I have been running that oild for over 3 years and the motor has made over 400 whp for a year and a half. I have a good old 7 bolt 4g63 Evo IX, not a X.

It will be interesting to see the wear on other bearings once I have taken more apart.

It blows up just like a X. haha. Not so bad for you since you know how to fix it.

There's a company that makes an oil pan for the X that supposedly has improved baffling. After spending all that time figuring out my fuel starvation issues, I wasn't surprised to learn that oil starvation is also a problem for aggressive drivers.

Thanks again to scheides and jason (Jaei Sun) help was much appreciated once again.

Block is stripped down and ready for machining. Just need the parts to come together now. I want to run this at the porkies shootout if possible this year.

Sorry to hear Jim. Hopefully it all goes smooth from here on out during the build.

From snippets in threads it looks like you are living the northern suburbs these days(coon rapids?)?

North burbs ftw!

I'm pumped because I just rode in this car the other day and I think Jim probably poored some of his glitter makeup in the motor just to have an excuse to build a 2.3, we were both talking about how we love them.

Come on, I mean the wife leaves for a couple days perfect time to spin a bearing and have to upgrade.

Let me know when wrench time is again and I will be there, this whole weekend has been packed and I wish I could of been there more.

If you are going to that Porky's Shootout, then I will find my way down there too.

Man it was a freaking lot of work and it was pretty hot but once we got the engine out and on the engine stand it sure was fun tearing it down and checking out all the internals. First time for me going in that far was back when I had my 1G:

but that was my semi newb days and I foolishly left the stock 7-bolt in the car and just drove it with a few basic mods and pump gas :P Anyways, I learned a lot today, thanks for letting me tag along man! It's like doing a timing belt, head gasket, and clutch job all at once, gah.

Well, it was really just a matter of time. I bet I know what Shane will say as far as the failure being oil related. lol.

^^^^^

2.4 :drive1: =)

2.0 block + 2.4 crank = 2.3L :D

Not to worry, I finished off that 7 bolt and did everything the right way!
