Bead Roll Ends On Intake

I would like to hear your guys feedback on this. Dont just vote let me know why you think one way or another. This poll is based off of our Evo 10 intake that is still being finalized.

You know my reasons. I would think with no pressure inside, or anything really forcing the intake pipe off, why need them? It's only job is to get air into the turbo..that's it. I've never had beads on any of my intakes in the past.

Yes. My X filter was slipping off until I sanded it a bit to rough it up, my wife's WRX filter was slipping off her SPT intake pipe, and my dad's GTO filter was slipping off his K&N intake pipe. The WRX and GTO filters seemed very secure and tight during installation, but after a few thousand miles they slipped off from the vibrations. I also found that over-tightening the filter clamp to prevent slippage was causing them to be squeezed off. These are all things that a small bead could have prevented.

To me this seems like one of those "why not?" type of things. Best case is saves a filter from slipping off; worst case it's still an extra attention to detail you have over the competition.

This intake was 'inspired' by the AMS 3" intake. They do roll the BOV pipe since it's going to be hit by blasts of air that needs to be recirc'ed and that blast will be in the direction that could blow the hose off.

I'm in the process of switching to t-bolts so I'd imagine it'll stay on but in general I'd recommend it.

I don't really see the need for it on the air filter pipe. If there was a rush of air inward then it'd just seat it better, not take it off.

Yes. More security. If you have a short 10" long intake with a 5" opening (swifty), you have more surface area. If you have a 25" long pipe with no supports on it thats 3" or 3.5" diameter, there's less surface area on the turbo inlet to hang on.

All have beads. Get any oil in there (blown turbo or a stock-style PCV system) and the thing will slip off pretty easily w/o beads...especially if you account for installing and then running for 20k miles w/o touching it (tough for some people I know!), the vibrations alone would be enough reason for me. IDK why there is even a question about not putting them on, it seems silly not to, Rolling a bead is cheap/easy, especially on 3.5" pipe w/o big angles on the end.

Rolled ends make the product appear higher quality. Think about it. Yes, it is just an intake tube. But do you want to cut corners (it's more preference in this case) and make a "shitty part" or make something that is actually better than the competion? Give people a reason to keep coming back, to tell their friends, to ask for more stuff to be made. And if it means raising the price a tiny bit, it still may be worthwhile.

That's true, the cheap ass air filter pipes I've seen didn't have beads.

I voted just BOV, but if someone could change it to both. ^Agreed.

My FP intake had beads on all ends too, but I've used homemade pipes on other cars and no problems.
The intake actually makes a vacuum, sucking the intake onto the pipe.
I am really surprised a vendor is making a thread about this.

Only reason I made this is to see what the consumer would like. I see it both ways but if the consumer will sleep better at night knowing there is a bead roll on his intake then by all means we will bead roll it.

Bead roll it because....why not? Less things to have to worry about the better, especially in the DSM community.
